Northwestern Family Day set for Sept. 28; families can ‘shop for tuition’ for chance to win scholarships

Registering at Ranger PreviewFamily Day at Northwestern Oklahoma State University is Saturday, Sept. 28. The annual event, organized by students in the Northwestern Scholar Ambassador (NSA) leadership group, brings families to campus where they can take tours, purchase Ranger gear, shop for tuition scholarships, attend a Ranger soccer and football game and more.

Families are invited to visit the Alva merchants to “shop for tuition” to register for a $500, $300 or $200 tuition giveaway for the spring semester of 2025. “Shopping for Tuition” takes place from 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, through 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. Families can register once per merchant location. The winning individuals will be presented with their awards during halftime of Saturday’s football game, which kicks off at 6 p.m. Must be present at the game to win.

The Alva merchants participating can be found at www.nwosu.edu/family-day. Merchants and updates are added daily online. No purchase is necessary to “shop for tuition.”

Current students whose parent(s) are Northwestern alumni are invited to attend a lunch from noon to 2 p.m. with their families in the Student Center Ranger Room, courtesy of the Northwestern Foundation and Alumni Association. Participants should register by Sept. 24 by emailing sllambert@nwosu.edu.

Family Day registration is on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. in the Northwestern Student Center commons area. Families will receive free tickets to the football game and a chance to win additional prizes. The bookstore will be open from noon to 2 p.m. to purchase Northwestern merchandise. And, the Ranger Market will be open for families to buy Starbucks drinks and snacks.

Also starting at noon on Saturday is a women’s soccer game against Oklahoma Baptist University at the Ranger Soccer Field at the Alva Recreation Complex.

At 2 p.m. on Saturday, a new activity will take place – A Family Cornhole Tournament that will be just outside the Student Center. Those wishing to take part can register inside the Student Center on Saturday.

Another fun activity on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. is an Alva Mural Scavenger Hunt. Those wanting to participate can register in the Student Center. Families will take a selfie with one of the various murals in Alva for one point. Those who gather 10 points (10 photos) will get 10% off in the NWOSU Bookstore. Those who gather 20 points (20 photos) will receive 20% off in the NWOSU Bookstore. All photos taken must be shown to those at the registration table in the Student Center before 4 p.m. on Saturday. All discounts can be redeemed on Sept. 28 at the NWOSU Bookstore in the Student Center or the Stadium Store at Ranger Field on the west side of the Dean Linder Pressbox. Several of Alva’s murals can be found in the downtown square area, but there are others along Oklahoma Boulevard and in other locations in town.

Ranger band playing for the tailgate crowd at Family DayFamilies also are invited to the free Tailgate Party starting at 5 p.m. on the fourth parking tier at Ranger Field. The food and drinks will be served for free thanks to several sponsors whose names can be found on the Family Day web page.

Saturday’s pre-game events will wrap up at 6 p.m. when the Northwestern Ranger football team takes on Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

“Family Day is a time for students to showcase their university to their families,” Ethan Sacket, student success coordinator and Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors’ sponsor, said. “NSA is a great group of students who have worked hard to create a fun-filled day for all ages.”
