NWOSU Student Conductors to be Featured in May 3 Concert
April 21, 2026
ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State University instrumental music program will present its final concert, “Podium Perspectives,” on Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m. in Fellers Family Auditorium in Herod Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.
Hadley Weathers, a junior media and communication major from Ringwood, performs during the Jazz Ensemble and Symphonic Band joint concert on March 10 in Fellers Family Auditorium. The last concert of the season will be on May 3 at 2 p.m. in the Fellers Family Auditorium in Herod Hall. |
This concert will showcase six undergraduate instrumental music education majors as they take the podium to conduct the Symphonic Band as part of their final project in the Instrumental Conducting class.
Featured student conductors include Jade Campbell, Woodward senior; Chancie Davidson, Alva senior; Samantha Grimes, Enid junior; Kacie Setzer, Fairview senior; Johnathon Snyder, Oklahoma City senior; and Rosa Vargas, Lahoma senior.
“These folks will be graduating next year after their student teaching this fall, so this is a unique and very special concert,” said Alexander Perkins, instructor of instrumental music and director of bands. “For many of them, this is one of their final performances before student teaching and graduation.”
The program will begin with a performance by the jazz ensemble and conclude with a performance by the symphonic band. The symphonic band’s repertoire includes selections chosen by the student conductors, featuring quality band literature written within the past decade.
In addition to highlighting all student achievement, the concert will recognize eight graduating seniors, making it a meaningful conclusion to the academic year.
