Fall commencement at Northwestern Oklahoma State University will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, in Percefull Fieldhouse.

Supreme Court Attorney and Northwestern alumna Judith Ridgeway will deliver the commencement address. Ridgeway graduated from Northwestern with two Bachelor of Science degrees in psychology and sociology in 1970. As a student, she sang with the campus singers. She also enjoyed campus walks with professor of botany Dr. Anna Fisher or learning about Shakespeare and London from professor of English Dr. Julia Sparger.

Upon graduation from Northwestern, Ridgeway earned a Juris Doctorate in Law from the University of Oklahoma in 1975 and began her 40-year career as an attorney.

Ridgeway uses her decades of private practice law experience in criminal, bankruptcy, divorces, child custody, and family dispute cases in lectures on how to stay married, children’s rights, family disputes, conflict management, open adoption, life after divorce, addiction and the family and personality profiling. She also taught classes and hosted lectures at the University of Oklahoma from 1993 to 2005.

Music will be provided by the Northwestern brass quintet. A reception honoring the graduates will immediately follow the ceremony in the Student Center Commons area.

Seventy-four students are candidates to receive bachelor’s degrees with 12 graduating with honors. Students with cumulative grade point averages between 3.70 and 3.79 are designated cum laude, those with GPAs between 3.80-3.89 are magna cum laude and those above 3.90 are summa cum laude.

Fourteen candidates will receive master’s degrees – one will receive a Master of Arts in American Studies, five will receive Master of Counseling Psychology degrees, six will receive Master of Education degrees and two will receive a Master of Science in General Psychology.
