NASA to Visit Northwestern on Space for Ag Listening Tour
October 1, 2025
ALVA, Okla. — Northwestern Oklahoma State University is set to welcome members of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Acres team on their Space for Ag Listening Tour to the Science Amphitheater, Thursday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at 1:45 p.m.
Dr. Karen St. Germain, Division Director of the Earth Science Division at NASA; Dr. Michael Humbler, Deputy Director of NASA Acres; and Dr. Alyssa Whitcraft, Founding Executive Director of NASA Acres, will present a lecture for local high school and college students, faculty, staff and the public as a part of the NASA Space for Ag tour through Oklahoma.
This tour is an initiative to bring Earth-observation tools such as Landsat and Sentinel directly to the agricultural community. As a part of this tour, the NASA Acres team is seeking interaction with producers, agricultural leaders, researchers and students to co-design decision supports for agricultural crop management.
NASA Acres aims to connect with the agricultural community by sharing methods, data and technology to enhance agricultural practices and resilience. The team desires a dialogue with students and faculty to develop a relationship with the student body to establish an understanding of the technology NASA has available for agriculture. NASA Acres invites all regional Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters to attend.
NASA Acres leadership will also meet with administration to discuss further cooperative activities between Northwestern and NASA.
Following the lecture, there will be time for interaction of students and the NASA team. The tour will then continue through Northwest Oklahoma to see and better understand the agriculture of the region with hopes of partnering with producers to develop tools for future use.
