Training Practice
empty This is the title, and it is using Heading 1 - Don't forget to save often!
Remember, before you can edit anything on this page, you have to do what?
The majority of you will be editing pages that already exist, so you'll be looking for words that are misspelled or text that needs to be updated with new information. So, as you work your way through the text on this page in both this column and in the right column, be aware of the content so can you notice any misspellings or letters that need to be capitalized, or the words "Empty" that should be deleted, etc. There are a few, but not too many. After reading this, you can delete this blue highlighted text.
Homecoming is oct. 23-25, 2025.
At the heart of Northwestern traditions is the homecom event. The Alva community, Northwestern alumni, current students, faculty and staff, as well as prospective students and bands from surrounding areas join in celebrating the Ranger family. Homecoming events such as the Miss Cinderella Pageant for high school senior females, the homecoming parade, band and parade float competitions, Ranger Royalty, and more are all funded strictly through the purchase of Northwestern’s annual themed homecoming button.
(Delete these highlighted words, then insert a line in this space that will serve as separation between the paragraph above and below)
Working with Text Using Copy and Paste
The following area will will have you "paste" using two methods. We'll use Control V to paste as well as use the Paste as Plain Text icon from the toolbar.
Open an Incognito Page and go in the drop down menu on the NWOSU Homecpage, go to Academics > Online Programs - https://www.nwosu.edu/online-programs. Copy (Control C) the text in the first gray tab and paste (Control V) it onto this page under these first two green paragraphs.
You may see that using Control V to paste will keep the gray background from the page. To get rid of the gray background color, highlight the text you just pasted and use the Tx icon in the toolbar. By using the Tx icon, it will strip the formatting of bold or italics type, but it will not strip the links associated with text or email addresses.
Now we'll paste below these pale green paragraphs using the Paste as Plain text icon, which will strip the formatting from everything, including the links.
using the same page and text as above, copy (control C) the text again, only this time when you paste you will use the Paste as Plain Text icon. (Top row of tools - looks like three clipboards - use the middle icon)
Now you will insert a photo into one of the areas you just pasted on this page above and have the text wrap around it. Put your cursor at the beginning of the first paragraph. Using the Photo tool, browse in the main File Browser area to find camp-ranger.png, (can use Control F to search for the term you're looking for), click on the words and ask Valarie what needs to be done inside the "Image Properties" area before you move on. Once finished with placing the photo you can delete this highlighted text area.
Insert a new line under the paragraphs you just pasted -- if it helps you to see what you've done you can delete all of the greenish highlighted text above. Then you also can delete this highlighted text. You may need to close some spacing between the items you've been working on so there isn't too much space between paragraphs and lines, etc.
Working with Links
There are links/emails in various locations below and at right. If you are linking to a page or form that is housed on the Northwestern website, the only part of the link you must use is whatever comes AFTER THE .EDU -- example -- /homecoming or /forms/event-reservation-form. When finished adding links to the site, delete this pink area.NOTE: If you are linking to a page NOT on the NWOSU site, you will use the entire URL.
If you have any questions as you move through this info, don't hesitate to ask for help.
EVENT and FACILITY RESERVATION INFORMATION/FORMS (Highlight all of the text in this heading and make this a heading 2 using the "Normal" drop down button, then delete these instructions)
These forms allow an item to be placed on the University Calendar as well as to reserve all necessities for the event like the room, equipment, food services, etc.
Event and Facility Reservation Form (highlight all the words at left and create a link to this form using: /forms/event-reservation-form and then center the link above the text below and remove any extra space between your bold link at the text below it. Then, delete the directions.)
is to be used to schedule ALL rooms on campus (except for Herod Hall Auditorium)
AND to add an item to the calendar if a room is not needed.
Herod Hall Auditorium Reservation Form (highlight the words at left and link to this form using: /forms/herod-hall-auditorium-reservation-form and center the link. Then, delete the directions. NOTE: the other links are bold here, so for consistency, this link needs to be bold, too.)
is to be used to schedule events in the auditorium.
(insert another line here then delete these highlighted words)
Linking to a PDF
Student Services PDF -- (Highlight the words at left, then use the Link icon in the toolbar to browse server and find a PDF from the Student Services folder in the File Browser. Items are not in alphabetical order in the File Browser, so using Control F will help you find things you're looking for. For Student Services, I use the word Services to find that folder. When you're inside that folder, look for a pdf to use, click on it, and that pdf should then be linked to the words at left. When finished, delete these instructions.)
Insert a line here, then delete this highlight text.
Create a bullet point list
Under this pink highlighted text, create a bullet point list naming three colors. You may need to highlight this text and choose "normal" from the drop down above. You also may have to change the Font to Franklin by highlighting the text and choosing the Font drop down if the text doesn't change to one similar to your body text after the publishing of the content. You won't know for sure until after submitting to publisher and looking at this page in your Incognito page.
Remove this pink highlighted text once you get your bullet list created.
Copying Text Using Source Button
Using the section directly below of the words to the Fight Song, click inside that text box area, then click the Source button (top left of the tool bar). Copy the html code of the text, then paste it below these blue instructions. NOTE: If you copy from Source, you must paste into Source because that is HTML code, so after copying from the Source below, you need to open the Source button from this text box and scroll to the very bottom of the page to paste the code. Sometimes if I'm trying to copy Source code in the middle of a long batch of Source text, I'll hit enter a couple times and type in a few capital XXXXXXX so it might be easier to find where I'm supposed to be pasting my Source text.

Ryerson Hall 211
(to close the space between lines of text like you see above, put the cursor at the end of Maier and hit delete. Ryerson Hall 211 will then be right next to Maier. At this point, use shift+enter and that should remove the extra space between lines of text. Just keep doing that for each line until finished.)

Save this for very last:
Insert a Red/Black box here and link it to /homecoming (we'll do this all at the same time after finishing all the instructions at left because working with this is tricky. Once you're working on this, you can delete this highlighted text.)
Instructions
NOTE: Nothing to change here - just info:
You DO NOT need to format the text of the words at left. They are set up to be all caps even if you do not type them as all caps. If you copy/paste a word into the area at left, you will need to strip the formatting from the text for the words to appear correctly. See what they should look like by using your Incognito page and browsing to /homecoming.
empty Homecoming buttons
Funds from the sale of Northwestern’s Homecoming Buttons are the main source of income for Homecoming.
(fix the Homecoming button to be on the right side of the text with the text on the left side. Make sure it has Alt Text - all images must have Alt Text. Whatever text is in this Alt Text area is what will be read by a Screen Reader. After finishing with this graphic, delete these instructions.)
The button is only $10 and provides entrance to the Miss Cinderella Pageant competition and Talent Night, the football game, as well as discounts and other incentives from a list of Alva merchants during the week of homecoming; it’s more than a $35 value! Each homecoming button is numbered and has a chance to win $500 in Alva Chamber Bucks. The winning button will be drawn during the homecoming football game, and the drawn number must be present to win.
