Renewable Energy - The Future is Here - Exploring & Learning Today
June 14-19, 2026
on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Alva, OK campus
Hosted by Northwestern Oklahoma State University, High Plains Technology Center, and NEXTera Energy. Funded by a grant from the Oklahoma Regents for Higher Education.

Renewable Energy – The Future is Here – Exploring & Learning Today will engage students in hands-on learning with experts in higher education and professionals in the field of renewable energy. Students will get an inside view of an operating nacelle, experience with simulators and a climbing tower, and see an operational wind turbine and solar field. Students will learn about the generation of electricity, get an introduction to electronics and robotics, and have hands-on experiences with the Renewable Energy Trainer. This training device includes power generation, micro-inverter, storage and renewable energy technology.
Oklahoma students in grades 9-12 in fall 2026 are eligible to apply.
Applications will be open from March 1 – April 1, 2026. The camp is FREE – funded by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
This camp is limited to 25 students.

Sunday, June 14:
6:30-7:30pm: Camp check-in, welcome, & orientation at Coronado Hall, NWOSU Alva campus
7:30-8:30pm: Introductions and Ice-breaker activities
Monday, June 15: (Introduction to SOLAR Energy)
8am: Breakfast
9:00am: Welcome – Introduction to power & electricity activities
10:00am: Introduction to Solar Energy
Noon: Lunch
1:00-2:15pm: Solar Energy Labs & Activities with the Renewable Energy Trainer
2:15pm: Break
2:30-4:00pm: Continued Solar Energy activities/labs
4:00-5:30pm: Break/Free time
5:30pm: Supper @ Coronado Cafe
6:45pm: Movie at Rialto Theatre
Tuesday, June 16: (Introduction to WIND Energy)
8am: Breakfast
8:45am: Wind Energy Presentation & Activities
11:45am: Lunch
12:30-2:30pm: Wind Energy Labs & Activities
3pm: Travel to Alabaster Caverns State Park
4pm: Tour of Alabaster Caverns State Park
5pm: Super at Alabaster Caverns State Park
7pm: Return to Alva
7:45pm: Evening activities at dorm (movies, games, swimming at Wellness Center pool, etc)
Wednesday, June 17: (High Plains Technology Center)
8:00am: Breakfast
9:00am: Travel to High Plains Technology Center in Woodward
10:30am: Activities/training at High Plains (safety training, simulator, wind turbine operation)
12:00pm: Lunch in Woodward
1:00pm: Activities/training at High Plains (SCADA, climbing tower, renewable energy careers)
3:30pm: Tour of wind turbine blade recycling center
5:30pm: Supper in Woodward
6:30pm: Return to Alva
7:30pm: Free time/Evening activities at dorm
Thursday, June 18: (Tour of Skeleton Creek site)
7:45am: Breakfast
8:30am: Leave for wind/solar site tour
10:15am: Presentation & Tour at Skeleton Creek site (near Waukomis, OK) Including Wind, Solar, & Battery storage
12:30pm: Lunch in Enid
1:30pm: Activity in Enid (mini-golf)
2:30pm: Return to Alva
4-5:30pm: Break/Free time
5:30pm: Supper at Coronado Café
6:30pm: Visit Bradt’s Menagerie
7:30pm: Free time/evening activities at dorm
Friday, June 19: (Hydroelectric power)
8:00am: Breakfast
9:00am: Introduction to Hydroelectric power
10:00am: Labs/Activities with Hydroelectric power
10:45am: Presentation on educational opportunities leading to STEM fields by NWOSU (college readiness, educational programs, financial assistance options for post-secondary education, etc)
11:15am: camp evaluations/surveys
11:45am: check out at dorms
