Students Compete in Esports Tournament at Northwestern

Placings at the Sept. 19 Esports Super Smash Brothers tournament at Northwestern Oklahoma State University are (left to right) Landon Parkhurst from Guymon High School, second place; Brandon Contreras from Watonga High School, first place; and Jorge Martinez from Guymon High School, third place. 

Nearly 100 middle and high school students making up 10 teams from schools in this area competed in a northwest regional Super Smash Brothers tournament at Northwestern Oklahoma State University Sept. 19.

The tournament, which was double-elimination, was organized by the Oklahoma Scholastic Esports Association (OKSE) and took place in the university’s Esports arena in Shockley Hall. Several members of the Northwestern Esports team served as volunteers and officials. 

Brandon Contreras from Watonga High School placed first in the contest with Landon Parkhurst from Guymon High School placing second, and Jorge Martinez from Guymon High School, third.

Brian Morris, founder and executive director of OKSE, noted that the tournament went very well.
