Two Northwestern Oklahoma State University education majors have been awarded scholarships from the Woods County Retired Educators Association (WCRE).

Recipients Kaleigh Henke, Alva freshman, and Mattie Ann Pitts, Waynoka junior, who are both majoring in early childhood education, accepted their awards from WCRE treasurer Thelma Crouch.

Henke was originally a theatre major but decided to take some time off to work and decide if that is what she wanted to do. After the birth of her daughter and watching her grow and learn new things, she realized she could help and care for children, in the same way, every single day.

Pitts knew that she wanted to be a teacher since she was 5 years old. After graduation, she plans to teach in a rural school in northwest Oklahoma and turn her passion into a lifelong career.
