Ranger Royalty Finalists, Freshman Queen Announced; King, Queen to be Crowned Nov. 5

Maria Sosa is the new reigning Freshman Queen. 

Northwestern Oklahoma State University held its annual Ranger Royalty Banquet Wednesday following the first round of voting for king and queen candidates. The Student Government Association (SGA) officers announced this year’s Freshman Queen, Maria Sosa of Laverne, and named the six final candidates for Ranger King and Ranger Queen.

Sosa is a biology major who enjoys being involved with the Chemistry Club, Biology Club, NWOSU Baptist Collegiate Ministries and the President’s Leadership Class. She is the daughter of Julian Sosa and Pilar Martinez. She is sponsored by the Chemistry Club.

Ranger King 2022 Candidates

The first Ranger King finalist is Tyler Blankenship, a sophomore undecided major from Macomb. His hobbies include raising sheep, juggling and being involved in Northwestern’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the BCM and is a member of the Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors. He also serves as treasurer for the SGA. He is the son of Mandy and Paul Blankenship. His sponsor is the NSA.

The second Ranger King finalist is Fernando Nunez, a junior psychology major from Laverne. He is a part of the BCM Leadership Team and is a student coach with Northwestern’s Office of Student Support Services. He is the son of Oscar and Jaqueline Nunez and is sponsored by SSS. 

The third Ranger King finalist is Rosco Setzer, a junior agriculture education major from Chelsea. He is a part of the men’s Cross Country team, the Cheer team and Aggie Club. He is the son of Windy Setzer and is sponsored by the Ranger Cheer team.

Ranger Queen 2022 Candidates

The first Ranger Queen finalist is Jaeden Coon, a senior health and sports science and sports psychology major from Sapulpa. Coon is a member of the Native American Student Association, women’s Cross Country and Track and Field Teams and is an equipment manager for the football team. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Jeremy Coon. She is sponsored by the women’s Cross Country team.

The second Ranger Queen finalist is Jerika Coon, a senior elementary education major from Sapulpa. Her hobbies include spending time with her friends and family. Coon is a part of the women’s Cross Country and Track and Field teams, NASA, Delta Zeta Sorority and is an NSA member. She also is the daughter of Jennifer and Jeremy Coon and is sponsored by SSS.

The third Ranger Queen finalist is Carli Seabolt, a junior business administration major from Perry. She served as Miss Northwestern 2022, was a member of the President’s Leadership Class and is president of the Ranger Business Club. She is the daughter of Steve and Shellie Seabolt and is sponsored by the Ranger Business Club.

Other Ranger Royalty members are flower girl Reese Mosburg, daughter of Calleb and Callie Mosburg; and crown bearer Beckham Lauderdale, son of Tim and Andrea Lauderdale.

The other candidate for Ranger King included Alex Baxter, a junior health and sports science education major from Moore.

The other candidates for Ranger Queen included Shaylee Beck, a senior health and sports science education major from White Deer, Texas; Abigail Gregory, a senior early childhood education major from Woodward; Olumurewa Olalere, a senior psychology major from Las Vegas, Nevada; Sadrie Overall, a junior biology major from Iola, Kansas; and Paige Robinette, a senior chemistry major from Waukomis.

The other candidates for Freshman Queen included Kaylor Cheves, a nursing major from Pawhuska; Kenzi Cronkhite, a vocal music education major from Enid; Emily Glunt, a business major from Beaver; Reagan Hiner, an education major from Shattuck; Alexandra Kepley, a criminal justice major from Holcomb, Kansas; Chloe Lehr, a secondary science education major from Alva; Kayli Stewart, a biology and chemistry major from Burlington; Jenna Swenson, a social work major from Woodward; and Mackayla Womack, an health and sports science education major from Velma.

The second and final round of voting for Ranger King and Queen will take place Monday, Oct. 31, and Tuesday, Nov. 1.

The Ranger King and Ranger Queen Coronation ceremony will take place during halftime of the homecoming football game against Arkansas Tech University on Saturday, Nov. 5. The game starts at 4 p.m.
