Dr. Shane Hansen Chosen for NCAA DII Management Council

The NCAA Division II executive board voted Dr. Shane Hansen, health and sports science department chair, as a Division II Management Council member representing the Great American Conference (GAC). Hansen’s four-year term begins in January 2026, and he will represent Northwestern Oklahoma State University as the only GAC representative on this committee.

Hansen was nominated by Northwestern’s President, Dr. Bo Hannaford, and GAC Commissioner Will Prewitt.  

“Thank you to Dr. Hannaford and Commissioner Prewitt for this opportunity,” Hansen said. “I am truly honored to be selected to represent Northwestern and the Great American Conference on the NCAA Division II Management Council. This is a tremendous opportunity to learn from some of the best leaders in the NCAA, and I am excited to help guide policy and regulations for Division II during this important time. The student-athlete will be at the heart of all decisions that are made through this rapidly changing landscape in the NCAA.  I am looking forward to the work we have on management council, and I am thankful for the support of our student-athletes, faculty, and administration here at NWOSU.”

The Management Council reports directly to the Executive Board and is charged with recommending administrative policy and regulations that govern the division. The Management Council reviews and acts on recommendations from the Division II committee structure and from Division II representatives to committees with association-wide functions. The council is also responsible for appointing Division II representatives to those committees. Members meet quarterly, including at the annual NCAA Convention.
