Hadley Bohlen, a Northwestern Oklahoma State University senior accounting major from Ringwood, has been selected as this year’s recipient and was awarded the $2,000 scholarship.

"I would love to be a CPA in Northwest Oklahoma," Bohlen said. "I have been in this area, born and raised here, so I would love to stay small town, Northwest Oklahoma, and just help people."

A third-generation Ranger, Bohlen switched from biology to accounting during her undergraduate career. She serves as a Becker Campus Ambassador, promoting CPA exam study materials to accounting majors on campus. In return, Becker will help cover her study materials for the CPA exam.

Bohlen, who will graduate in May with 144 credit hours, plans to complete the additional six hours required for CPA licensure at Northwestern.

Dana Roark, Northwestern instructor of business and Bohlen’s adviser, encouraged her to apply.

“She is an excellent student who works hard and is very deserving of the award,” Roark said.

"The CPA profession has given me a lot of opportunities to grow, learn and teach," said Henry Bickerstaff, scholarship benefactor. "As I grow older, I want to be able to give back to my profession, and one way that I've been able to do that was to establish a scholarship for students in the northwest corner of Oklahoma."

Bickerstaff, who has maintained an accounting practice in Alva since 1978, serves on the board of trustees for the OSCPA’s Education Foundation.

"I get to see all the applicants, and Hadley is one of the top applicants," he said. "She's earned that. She's an impressive student."

Bohlen also works with Higher Education Prevention Services, informing students about suicide and opioid prevention services available on campus, including Narcan/Naloxone lock boxes and free counseling resources.

"I'm super grateful for the opportunity to learn from them and this program," Bohlen said, thanking Bickerstaff, Roark, Northwestern instructor of business Teri Allen and all her accounting instructors. "I'm also super thankful to be the recipient of a great scholarship."
