Shuttle Driver - Student Services

Available: Immediately 

Terms of Employment: This position is on an as-needed basis and does not guarantee weekly hours. Most hours will be obtained at the start and end of each semester with occasional hours around school breaks.

Duties and Responsibilities: This position is part-time without benefits.  Candidates will be responsible for shuttling students to and from various locations, including but not limited to the Dwight D. Eisenhower Airport in Wichita, KS and Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City, OK.

Nursing Adjunct Faculty

  • Plan, guide, implement and evaluate learning experiences of students in clinical and classroom settings, demonstrating skill as a clinical practitioner.

HVAC Technician - Alva Campus

Available: Immediately

Terms of Employment: Regular, full-time 12-month position, with University benefit package.  Open until filled.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under limited supervision, installs, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning units.
  • Performs routine adjustments to start or stop seasonal equipment and performing routine maintenance.
  • Maintains and repairs various electrical machinery including pumps and electrical controls, pressure gauges, and temperature gauges.
  • Accurately interprets written instructions, including blueprints and specifications.
  • Organizes and ensures needed supplies and equipment are on site and accounted for at the end of the work day.
  • Required to do heavy lifting which may exceed 100 pounds.
  • Assists in maintaining supply inventory of material and assists other departmental staff as needed.
  • Assists in emergency situations as called upon.
  • Performs various other related duties as may be required by the Director, Plant Operations.

Assistant Chief of Police - Alva Campus

Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Chief of Police is a 12-month, full-time position located on the Alva Campus.  This position is engaged in maintaining the public peace, enforcing state and local laws, safeguarding institutional assets and providing public service.  This position also includes the duties of making schedules, approving time cards, and any other duties assigned by the Chief of Police.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice/law enforcement from an accredited college or university is preferred, or equivalent experience in the field of law enforcement. Job Summary: Northwestern invites applications for an assistant/associate professor position in the department of English, Foreign Language, and Humanities. We seek a candidate with teaching expertise in composition, advanced composition, and creative writing. The successful candidate will be based on the Northwestern Alva campus and teach a 27-hour load of undergraduate and occasional graduate-level English courses as well as humanities courses. Additional responsibilities will include student advising, participation in department recruiting efforts, program assessment and curriculum development, and committee and university service.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a PhD from an accredited institution in English and a demonstrated record of teaching composition and other writing courses. Assistant/Associate Professor of English and Program Coordinator of English Education

Position Available: Full-time, nine-month, Assistant or Associate Professor of English. Salary, based on qualifications and experience, is determined by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and University President and approved by the Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO).

Duties and Responsibilities: Candidates must have experience teaching in the public school system. The successful candidate is expected to teach all levels of English Education, including Teaching Methods, Young Adult Literature, Usage and the Composition sequence; recruit and advise undergraduates; participate in committee work; and promote teamwork and collegiality within the department by working effectively with faculty, students, and staff.  The candidate must be organized and able to draft and interpret both qualitative and quantitative data as needed for CAEP reporting. Serving as the program coordinator of English Education, the 24 credits per year load assignment includes field observation of student teachers and Teacher Education Committee responsibilities.

Qualifications: Doctorate or advanced ABD preferred, HLC-qualified master’s degree required. Masters-prepared faculty are appointed at the rank of instructor; terminal degree required for appointment at rank of assistant professor.

Title III (LASSO Center) Academic Advisor - Student Coach

Terms of Employment: 

  • Regular, full-time, twelve-month grant position with university benefit package located within the Title III office in the Ryerson Hall Building on the Alva Campus of Northwestern Oklahoma State University.  Note:  This position is only available during the five-year grant term. The grant is currently in the final year of the five-year term.
  • Regular, full-time employment with RUSO (Regional University System of Oklahoma).

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Implement and coordinate activities in accordance with Title III LASSO Project.
  • Offer enhanced student engagement providing accessibility and being open-minded to all students’ needs; provide a safe-space for students.
  • Provide guidance and support for underprepared students, undecided majors, and assist students with at-risk factors.
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with university staff and faculty.
  • Participate in coaching certification trainings and webinars with Title III LASSO Project partner InsideTrack.
  • Conducts student needs assessments and coordinates the development and implementation of action and education plans for each student.
  • Maintains caseload of students for individual academic advising, student coaching, and personal development activities.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and reports on academic progress, intervening with appropriate support services when necessary, and refers to appropriate on- and off-campus support services as needed.
  • Lead assigned sections of Ranger Connection, first-year experience course, and collaborate with other LASSO staff on yearly strategies to restructure and enhance.
  • Facilitates awareness of LASSO Center by promoting the department’s services through design, facilitation, and presentation of institutional messages to students and university personnel for coaching and student success.
  • Maintains current knowledge and competencies in student advising/coaching through self-directed professional reading, formal professional development opportunities, and professional contacts with colleagues.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. Desired qualities include:  customer service orientated, ability to work with students on a daily basis and handle student issues efficiently and in a timely manner; knowledge and experience in working with underprepared students and underrepresented populations; ability to work with a diverse student population; working knowledge of academic advisement procedures at the university level; well-developed computer skills including Microsoft Office.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology - Department of Natural Science

Job Summary: The successful candidate will be based on the Northwestern Alva campus location, teaching courses on site. We seek a full-time, assistant/associate professor with a commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates. Preference will be given to biologists with expertise in microbiology, genetics, pathogenic microbiology, immunology, and virology.  Capacity and willingness to serve as coordinator for secondary science education is especially desired. The ability to teach student populations with diverse educational backgrounds is ideal, as is an openness to, and experience in, use of technology for online/remote course delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach upper-level undergraduate biology courses that complement existing programs in the department (Health Science, Natural History, and Science Education).  In particular, we seek a candidate especially well-suited to offer upper-level microbiology, genetics, pathogenic microbiology and immunology, virology, and additional courses in their field of expertise.

The position will benefit from and strengthen existing collaborations between the biology, chemistry, and physics faculty in our tightly knit department; existing professional degree collaborations with other institutions; cooperation with the university’s accredited teacher education and nursing programs; and participation in campus organizations such as the student Medical Sciences Club.

Additional responsibilities of this position include advising and mentoring undergraduate students in the sciences, engaging in university committee service, departmental activities, supporting undergraduate research activities, and possible teacher education committee roles.

Preferred Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a PhD from an accredited institution in the biological sciences with a demonstrated record of teaching, pre-professional student advising, and service. An appropriate EdD from an accredited institution with extensive experience in the biological sciences will also be considered. Applicants with experience and expertise in science education (secondary science teacher preparation) are particularly encouraged to apply. ABD will be considered at the initial rank of instructor, with hiring contingent upon a terminal degree completion plan presented at the time of interview.

Preferred qualifications include experience in teaching a range of courses in the biological sciences (with an emphasis in microbiology, genetics, pathogenic microbiology, immunology, and virology) that serve as pre-requisites for science education and graduate programs in the life sciences.

Assistant Professor of Media and Communication - Journalism

Position Available: Full-time, nine-month, Assistant Professor of Media and Communication—Journalism. Salary, based on qualifications and experience, is determined by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and University President and approved by the Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO).

Job Summary: The department seeks a candidate with a strong academic and professional background in journalism with particular expertise in online, multimedia, and social media-driven digital journalism.

The successful candidate will teach 27 credit hours per academic year. Courses commonly taught in this position include Writing for Media Professionals, News Reporting, Photography, Publication Design and Production, and Media Law & Ethics. In addition, this position serves as faculty advisor for the Northwestern News, the award-winning, student-run newspaper and digital news platform. The faculty advisor will mentor student journalists, oversee editorial workflows, support ethical and legally-sound reporting practices, and lead ongoing efforts to strengthen and expand the publication’s digital presence. Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental recruiting efforts, program assessment, academic advising, and committee and university service.

Preferred Qualifications: Terminal degree in journalism, mass communication, or related field; professional experience in journalism; and teaching experience in higher education. Doctorate or advanced ABD preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:  Professional experience in journalism or teaching experience in higher education. Master’s degree in journalism, mass communication or related field. Terminal degree awarded prior to August 2026 is required for rank of assistant professor. HLC-qualified masters-prepared faculty are appointed at the rank of instructor.

The Media & Communication Program offers a B.S. in Media & Communication, with coursework spanning journalism, broadcasting, video production, and strategic communication. Students gain practical experience by working in one or more of the department’s media outlets, including NWTV (the campus television station), the Northwestern News (print and digital editions), and the student-run strategic communication agency. These applied learning opportunities are integral to the curriculum and prepare students for the rapidly evolving media landscape.

Graduate Assistant - Strength and Conditioning

Duties and Responsibilities: This position is a part-time 10-month position in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Responsible for effectively working with qualified student-athletes and assisting with all aspects of the strength and conditioning program including but not limited to: coaching responsibilities, as assigned by the Head Sports performance Coach including assisting with strength and conditioning activities of all Northwestern Athletics programs by providing instruction in the uses of weight machines and conditioning equipment and assisting in tailoring workouts to the specific needs of each program or individual student-athlete.  Responsible for compliance with policies and procedures of Northwestern, the GAC, NCAA and other regulatory agencies.

The Graduate Assistant will also assist with manage the program’s equipment.  The GA is responsible for compliance with policies and procedures of the University, Great American Conference (GAC), NCAA and other regulatory agencies.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree required, with at least an overall 2.75 undergraduate GPA to be considered for admission to Graduate Studies.
  • Experience playing or coaching college athletics or in sports performance.

General Maintenance - Alva Campus

Available: Immediately

Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in building forms, pouring and finishing cement; repairing appliances; erecting partitions and installing ceilings; painting walls and woodwork. Change air-conditioner filters, unplug drains, repair faucets, replace fluorescent light tubes.  Repair equipment and do building maintenance.  Mow grass with small tractor or self-propelled riding mower.  Operate jackhammer, and occasionally operate trucks, forklifts, front end loaders, and mechanized equipment incidental to regular work assignments.  Required to do heavy lifting which may exceed 100 pounds.  Perform job-related work as required and assigned, and assist in emergencies when called upon. Occasional travel to other campuses may be required.

Qualifications: Knowledge of the types and uses of common hand tools, materials, and standard equipment used in maintenance construction and repair.  Knowledge of precautions necessary to work safely with and around mechanized construction and maintenance equipment.  Ability to understand and carry out specific oral or written instructions in an efficient manner.  Ability to perform manual tasks involving physical strength and endurance under variable weather conditions.

Position Available: Full-time, nine-month, Assistant Professor of Media and Communication—Strategic Communication. Job Summary: The successful candidate will teach 27 credit hours of strategic communication and general communication coursework per academic year. Courses commonly taught by this position include Introduction to Strategic Communication, Principles of Advertising & Marketing, Strategic Communication Writing, Advanced Strategic Communication, Strategic Communication Practicum, and Introduction to Speech Communication. In addition, this position serves as the faculty advisor for our student-led strategic communication agency. The advisor will mentor students, oversee agency operations and client projects, promote ethical communication practices, and guide ongoing efforts to expand the agency’s reach and impact.  Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental recruiting efforts, program assessment, academic advising, and committee and university service.

Preferred Qualifications: Terminal degree in strategic communication/public relations, mass communication, or related field; professional experience working in public relations, advertising, or similar field; and teaching experience in higher education.

Minimum Qualifications:  Professional experience in public relations, advertising, or similar field or teaching experience in higher education; and master’s degree in strategic communication, mass communication, or related field.

The Media & Communication Program offers a B.S. in Media & Communication, with coursework spanning journalism, broadcasting, video production, and strategic communication. Students gain practical experience by working in one or more of the department’s media outlets, including NWTV (the campus television station), the Northwestern News (print and digital editions), and the student-run strategic communication agency. These applied learning opportunities are integral to the curriculum and prepare students for the rapidly evolving media landscape.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology

Position Available: Nine-month, full-time, Assistant or Associate Professor of Psychology with a clinical emphasis. General Information: Northwestern Oklahoma State University is a state-assisted regional institution in the Regional University System of Oklahoma and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Job Summary: The successful candidate will be based at either the Alva or Enid campus location, teaching courses on-site in counselor education and mental health counseling. We seek applicants with a commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduates as well as developing counselors-in-training pursuing masters’ degrees and/or professional licensure(s).

Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate should be prepared to teach at least four classes in psychology per semester, with summer school teaching opportunities available but not required. Full-time positions include an expectation of committee participation and student-advisement beginning the second year of employment. Teaching responsibilities include teaching a range of undergraduate and graduate-level courses including integrated courses related to mental health and addictions counseling specialty areas. The faculty member will collaborate with other faculty members on ongoing program and curriculum development. Supervision responsibilities include observing and mentoring graduate candidates in local public schools and mental health agencies, and providing group and/or triadic supervision as needed. Advising responsibilities include mentoring MCP (master of counseling psychology) candidates and meeting with prospective students.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program; research interests or professional experience in evidence-based, culturally responsive interventions; CACREP or MPCAC accreditation expertise; ability to contribute to program assessment, accreditation processes, and curriculum development; experience and/or training in online curriculum design and delivery; active involvement or willingness to engage in professional counseling organizations (e.g., American Counseling Association or state affiliates); knowledge of ethical standards and legal issues in counseling (e.g., familiarity with American Counseling Association Code of Ethics and Oklahoma licensure laws); and experience providing clinical supervision, or eligibility/training to provide supervision to practicum/internship students.

Minimum Qualifications:  Earned doctorate in counselor education or commitment to obtain a doctorate in counselor education (preferably from a CACREP- or MPCAC-accredited program) OR doctoral degree in a related field; licensed/certified or eligible to be licensed in Oklahoma as a Licensed Professional Counselor, or certified or eligible to be certified as a Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LADC), or actively pursuing licensure; experience teaching students with diverse learning needs or demonstrated understanding of working with diverse populations; experience teaching in higher education (online, hybrid, or face-to-face), or demonstrated potential for effective teaching; ability to teach core counseling courses (e.g., techniques, ethics, practicum/internship); and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and community partners.

Head Men's Basketball Coach

Available: Immediately

Terms of Employment: Regular, full-time 12-month position, with University benefit package. Answers to the Director of Athletics in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, located on the Alva Campus.  Position open until filled.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing leadership for all aspects of a dynamic NCAA DII Men’s Basketball program at a 4-year state university including, but not limited to activities involved in practice sessions and competition events
  • Responsible for compliance with policies and procedures of the University, Great American Conference (GAC), NCAA and other regulatory agencies
  • Required to annually pass the NCAA recruiting modules before recruiting off campus
  • Responsible for all documentation required of NWOSU, the Great America Conference, and NCAA to ensure institutional control
  • Organizes and conducts practice sessions
  • Submits orders for equipment and is responsible for inventory and issuance of equipment
  • Provides complete and accurate required information to all appropriate offices for all official visits
  • Reviews NCAA rules with student-athletes when necessary and reinforces the importance of compliance
  • Responsible for the actions of all assistant coaches and staff and the sport’s compliance with NCAA rules
  • In cooperation with the Director of Athletics and Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, monitors the scheduling process, verifying that the schedule meets NCAA and conference scheduling requirements
  • Facilitates the provision of all information necessary to determine prospective student-athlete eligibility
  • Educates student-athletes of NCAA regulations regarding reporting of employment earnings
  • Furnishes a roster of players for eligibility clarification
  • Supervises conduct of athletes on trips and at games

Qualifications:

  • Must exhibit commitment and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of Northwestern, the GAC and the NCAA, as well as show a thorough understanding of NCAA rules compliance
  • Experience playing and coaching basketball required.
  • Must be certified in AED/CPR
  • Position requires strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to remain calm in situations where emotions are strained
  • Must demonstrate effective public speaking skills and work well with various news media organizations. Must be committed to both athletic and academic excellence
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred

Correctional Substance Abuse Treatment Counselor (Internal)

Terms of Employment: Regular, full-time, 12-month position, with University benefit package.  Located in Alva, OK in the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Office at the Charles E. “Bill” Johnson Correctional Center.

Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Director, Treatment Counselors provide direct drug and alcohol treatment therapeutic aftercare services to convicted drug offenders in a minimum security correctional facility. Services are provided in group and individual settings. Treatment Counselors perform bio-psycho-social assessments, treatment planning; and treatment evaluations based on the cognitive behavioral therapy treatment model for substance abusing clients, and other duties as assigned. Treatment Counselors adhere to the standards of practice put forth by the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and the Oklahoma Department of Corrections for drug and alcohol abuse treatment protocols. Treatment Counselors must perform all treatment duties in a confidential manner and are expected to maintain professional stature at all times while working cooperatively with fellow NWOSU Community Service Program members and Department of Corrections case managers and staff.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology or other human service field required. Counselors must be at least 21 years of age and hold a valid U.S. driver's license. Oklahoma certification in drug and alcohol treatment is expected or a letter of intent to pursue licensure or certification must be on file with the appropriate state governing board of licensure.

Residence Hall Supervisor (Internal)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Hall Supervisor position is a full time, live-in position staff member who is responsible for the daily operations of the residence hall including providing leadership and management of the residential community
  • Hire, train, and supervise all student employees (resident assistants and student custodians) and hold weekly resident assistant meetings
  • Supervise and build relationships with residents
  • Enforce policies and procedures in the residence hall
  • Prepare the building for check-in (check and order keys, maintenance, room assignments) and check-out (room inspection, assess damages, inventory of building contents, complete maintenance report)
  • Respond to resident, employee, or building emergencies
  • Assist the Housing Director in developing a Residential Curriculum Model and implementing the requirements / activities within the residence halls
  • Develop a sense of community among members and focus on social development
  • Supervise and enforce safety policies and procedures to ensure the safety of the residents
  • Developing, promoting, and implementing various residence hall activities within the administered budget
  • Day to day operations of a residence hall that include but are not limited to daily rounds, work orders, student tracking, communicating with residents, supervising residence assistant desk hours, collecting housing paperwork, and implementing occasional room checks
  • Conduct monthly health and safety room checks in the residence hall
  • Inspecting and monitoring the building daily, inside and outside, and responding immediately to problems or irregularities within the facility, including cleanliness
  • Work assigned on-call weekends
  • Organize and oversee camps within the residence halls in the summer
  • Other tasks designated by the Director of Housing

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree or university housing experience preferred.  Well-developed computer skills, oral and written communication skills, and organization skills are essential.  The ability to supervise and lead resident assistants and student custodians.  The ability to work with diverse populations in a university setting is imperative.  The Hall Supervisor must have the ability to work in high pressure situations.  They must also have enthusiasm, knowledge, creativity and experience working with students The Hall Supervisor must show commitment to a student’s academic, social, and personal success within the residence halls.
