HONORS APPLICATION

Incoming Freshmen 

  • ACT composite score of 27 or

  • SAT-I score of 1220;

  • Cumulative high school GPA of 3.4

  • 2-page writing sample; and

  • Letter of recommendation from a teacher or administrator

Deadline for priority scholarship consideration: March 15.

Current/Transfer Students

 

  • Must have completed two semesters of full-time college coursework;

  • Composite ACT score of 27 or

  • SAT-I score of 1200;

  • Cumulative college GPA of 3.4;

  • Letter of recommendation from a university instructor or administrator; and

  • Essay on an assigned topic

Deadline for priority scholarship consideration: March 15.

NWOSU Honors Completion 

  • Complete a sequence of 4 special-topics courses with a grade of A or B; 

  • Submit a reflective portfolio of work produced in the Honors course sequence;

  • Produce one independent, academic research project under the guidance of professors in your major; and

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2

Objectives & Student Learning Outcomes

Objectives:

  1. Promote excellence in undergraduate education;

  2. Generate multi-disciplinary opportunities for students;

  3. Design challenging courses;

  4. Provide small class sizes;

  5. Foster an environment of scholarship; and

  6. Raise students' global awareness
     

Students in each Honors course will meet at least half of the specified Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate independent, critical, and creative thinking;

  2. Become exposed to cultures different from their own;

  3. Demonstrate effective communication skills;

  4. Model academic and professional behaviors;

  5. Cultivate reflective citizenship; and/or

  6. Demonstrate academic maturity.
