January 9, 2018

Last year, nearly 300 students gathered for the two-day Red Carpet Honor Band rehearsal and ended with a performance. This year the Red Carpet Honor Band performance will take place Saturday, Jan. 13, at 1:30 p.m. in Alva at Northwestern.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University will play host to the 2018 Red Carpet Honor Band on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 12-13, in Alva. Following a number of rehearsals, nearly 300 middle school and high school students from across northwest Oklahoma will perform in a concert open to the public Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium.

These students will form three bands: Junior High A Band, Junior High B Band and High School Band. The students will rehearse all day Friday and Saturday morning prior to Saturday’s concert. The students will demonstrate what they learned over the course of two days in their performance.

Schools with participants include Alva, Buffalo, Blackwell, Cherokee, Chisholm, Cimarron, Deer-Creek Lamont, Drummond, Emerson Junior High, Enid, Fairview Fargo, Garber, Hennessey, Kingfisher, Kremlin-Hillsdale, Laverne, Longfellow Junior High, Medford, Mooreland, Newkirk, Okeene, Oklahoma Bible Academy, Perry, Pioneer-Pleasant Vale, Ponca City High School, Ponca City West, Ponca City East, Pond Creek-Hunter, Ringwood, Seiling, Vici, Watonga, Waller Junior High, Waukomis, Waynoka, Woodward and Woodward Middle School.

Dr. Marc Decker, assistant professor of music and director of bands at Northwestern, looks forward to meeting prospective students from the Oklahoma area.

“I’m delighted that Northwestern plays host to this event,” Decker said. “Essentially, it brings in over 300 potential future Rangers to our campus every year.”
