Bird crowned Miss Northwestern 2020; Williams takes home Outstanding Teen title

Miss Northwestern Winners

Liberty Bird of Alva was named Miss Northwestern Oklahoma State University 2020 during the annual Miss Northwestern competition on Sunday, Nov. 3. Libby Williams was crowned as Miss Northwestern’s Outstanding Teen 2020.

Bird, a freshman business administration major, performed the vocal solo “Don’t Stop Me Now,” and her platform is “Engage! Encouraging Responsible Cell Phone Use.”

Williams performed a vocal solo “Where the Boys Are” for the pageant, and her platform is “Together We S.I.N.G.”

Bird will receive a $1,500 tuition scholarship and a cash scholarship as Miss Northwestern. When Williams attends college at Northwestern, she will receive a $1,500 tuition scholarship as well.

Emma Eckhardt of Alva, named Miss Northwestern’s Star 2020, will accompany Bird to the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Competition in Tulsa in June. Eckhardt is the daughter of Chris and Sara Eckhardt of Alva.  

Miss Northwestern Candidates

Miss Northwestern’s first runner-up is Johnetta Washington, junior business administration major from Enid. She will receive a $1,250 tuition scholarship and a cash scholarship.

Second runner-up and Miss Northwestern People’s Choice is Ashton Tuck, freshman biology major from Mooreland. She will receive a $1,000 tuition scholarship and a cash scholarship.

Winner of the teen category for People’s Choice Award, Sydney Harmon of Meno, will receive a $1,250 scholarship.

Candidates for the Miss Northwestern title were judged on talent, evening gown and social impact, private interview, and on-stage interview. Candidates in the Miss Northwestern’s Outstanding Teen competition were judged on talent, private interview, lifestyle and fitness, and on-stage question.

Kenlee Netherton, junior psychology major from Blair; Melissa Perez, sophomore biology major from Ringwood; and Savannah Francis, freshman political science major from Tahlequah, also competed in the Miss Northwestern competition.

Other candidates for the Miss Northwestern Star program included Heaven Mills of Enid, Catherine Navarrete of Clinton, Kailie Standerfer of Woodward, and Everly and Hadassah Taylor of Alva.
