Staff Council Planning Campus Beautification Day Events

April 8, 2021

Campus Beautification

Dr. Christee Jenlink, associate dean of education and professor of education, participated last year during the Northwestern Staff Council’s annual Campus Beautification event. Students, faculty, staff and administrators join in each year to help plant flowers, pick up trash and more to help the campus look more beautiful. This year’s Campus Beautification event on the Alva campus is April 29 with Staff Council members joining volunteers at the Enid campus April 22 and Woodward campus on April 23 for similar events.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Staff Council members are looking for volunteers to help with Campus Beautification Day events in Alva, Enid and Woodward this month.

On Thursday, April 29, from 1 to 4 p.m. on the Alva campus, all students and university employees are welcome to volunteer their services to help give the campus a facelift.

Volunteers are required to wear face coverings due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Please contact Sue Burks, Staff Council chair, at smburks@nwosu.edu or (580) 327-8106 by Friday, April 23, with the names of students, faculty/staff members, administrators and club or organization members who would like to participate in this service project so that the Staff Council members will know how many volunteers to expect and make job assignments.

All volunteers should meet at 12:45 p.m. on the west side of the Student Center to receive instructions on the projects to be completed for the day. Volunteers also should dress appropriately for outdoor work. Tools, gloves and trash bags will be provided; however, volunteers may bring their own tools and gloves. For students and employees who cannot come at 12:45, please check in to help at any time during the hours of the event.

Staff Council will take a group photo of the volunteers at 12:45. Volunteers can come for the photo and go to class at 1 p.m., and come back to help when they can.

In case of inclement weather, Campus Beautification Day in Alva will be moved to Monday, May 3.

Campus Beautification Day events will be at the Enid campus Thursday, April 22, and at the Woodward campus Friday, April 23.

Pre-registration at these two locations is requested by April 19. Enid volunteers should contact Tiffany Misak, campus coordinator of the Enid campus, and Woodward volunteers should pre-register by signing up at the front desk.

Staff Council appreciates all of the volunteers for these events because they could not do it without them.

The Staff Council appreciates Dr. Mindi Clark, assistant professor of agriculture, and her students for growing and providing the plants to be used on the campuses during these events.

A record of the number of hours volunteered by employees and students will be kept so it can be reflected in service-learning reporting. Everyone planning to volunteer is asked to sign in and provide the approximate amount of time available to work.

Questions about Campus Beautification Day or the Staff Council may be directed to Burks.
