Artwork and those who appreciate it gathered in Northwestern’s Jesse Dunn Gallery Sophia last year for the first Red Dirt Review High School Art Contest. The second contest is now open for entries that are due by Nov. 2.

ALVA, Okla. – Entries are now open for the second Red Dirt Review High School Art Contest sponsored by the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Wisdom Family Foundation Visual Arts program at the Alva campus. The deadline to enter is Nov. 2.

Public, private and homeschooled students in grades 9-12 may submit up to three items using the Red Dirt Review Art Contest Entry Form by the Nov. 2 deadline in the categories of ceramics, digital art, drawing, mixed media/other, painting, photography and sculpture. There is no entry fee.

Photos of the artwork may be uploaded using the form. Additional information about the Northwestern visual arts program is also available at the visual arts program link.

Thomas Cornell, assistant professor of visual arts and chair of the fine arts department, said all entries will initially be adjudicated online. Selected entrants and winners in each grade level and category will be invited to display their work in the exhibition, with notifications expected before Nov. 5.

Gallery Sophia in the Jesse Dunn Building will be open for viewing the artwork Nov. 16 through Dec. 4. Open days and times are Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays by appointment.

A public awards reception is planned for Dec. 4 from 5 to about 6:30 p.m.

If delivery of artwork to the Alva campus presents challenges, students may contact Cornell at tacornell@nwosu.edu for assistance or with questions. Note: Gallery Sophia is accessible only by stairs.
