Shopping, Photos with Santa, non-perishable food drive set for December 15

December 7, 2018

The ninth annual Holiday Store for Kids and Photos with Santa event will be Saturday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Student Center in Alva. This event is sponsored by the NWOSU Art Society.

Kids of all ages are welcome to have their photos taken with Santa that day. Several photos will be taken and downloaded onto a laptop computer for immediate viewing. Cost is $5 for each image chosen, and the purchaser will receive the original digital negative files.

Those getting photos taken are asked to bring a jump drive so photos can be provided before they leave. Those without a jump drive will have to wait for the files to be emailed later in the week to the address they provide on their order form.

The Holiday Store will give children an inexpensive and fun way to shop for loved ones, friends, teachers and even pets. Prices on a variety of merchandise usually range from 50 cents to less than $20.

Parents and family members are welcome to accompany their children through the store, but they also may watch them shop from afar inside the store if the children want to keep their gifts as a surprise. Club members and volunteers will be on hand to help each child shop, stay within their budget and get their presents wrapped.

The Ranger Market/Starbucks also will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those attending this annual event to purchase a snack.

NAS also will be accepting non-perishable food or monetary donations for the Campus Cabinet, Northwestern’s soon to open food pantry for its students and employees.

The types of food being sought for the campus food pantry includes “dorm-friendly” type non-perishable foods such as canned meat, soup, vegetables and fruit; peanut butter, jelly, cereal, breakfast foods, crackers, macaroni and cheese, rice or pasta, tomato sauce, Ramen noodles, instant potatoes, box meals, single-serving foods and non-frozen microwaveable meals. Personal hygiene items also will be accepted.

Food donation boxes soon will be located on the first floor of the Fine Arts Building and in the J.W. Martin Library.
