Northwestern Enid Campus to play host to Social Studies Workshops May 28-29

The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Social Sciences will play host to two social studies workshops on the Northwestern-Enid campus, May 28-29.

The Bill of Rights Institute (BRI) is offering these free in-person seminars from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a complimentary breakfast and lunch.

Founded in 1999, the BRI is a non-partisan, non-profit educational organization. Its team develops educational resources on American history and government, provides professional development opportunities to teachers and runs student programs and scholarship contests.

The Institute employs a full-time staff with more than 100 years of combined classroom experience. For more information about BRI, visit billofrightsinstitute.org/.

The first seminar on May 28 is titled “Standards and Storytelling: Bringing Oklahoma’s Social Studies to Life.” It is designed for elementary educators, featuring storytelling, primary sources and student-centered strategies to bring Oklahoma’s social studies standards to life. Participants can collaborate with fellow teachers and BRI staff to create engaging, standards-aligned lessons grounded in the BRI Jr. approach to civic education.

The second seminar on May 29 is titled “Teaching Freedom: Using BRI Resources for Engaging Social Studies Lessons,” where secondary educators will explore engaging, standards-aligned strategies to teach history, government and economics through the lens of freedom and civic responsibility. Participants can discover ready-to-use resources and collaborate with fellow teachers to bring foundational American principles to life in the classroom.

To register for the May 28 workshop, visit billofrightsinstitute.org/event/3709ee61-7339-4bf3-86e3-414c6ce17c2b.

To register for the May 29 workshop, visit billofrightsinstitute.org/event/2df34d67-c7b1-4a13-a927-d5343e050599.
