September 18, 2023

Northwestern’s own Dr. Eduardo Moreira performs at a recent concert. The world-class concert pianist will be performing a free concert in Herod Hall Auditorium Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.

Northwest Oklahoma community members will have the opportunity to listen to a world-class concert pianist perform some of the most virtuosic works ever written for the piano when Dr. Eduardo Moreira, assistant professor of music at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, performs a solo piano recital in Herod Hall Auditorium on the Alva campus Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public.

The experienced concert pianist has performed in several important venues all over the world including Brazil, France, Germany, the United States and Uruguay.

“For me, a music performance is a lot more than pure entertainment,” Moreira said. “It is an invitation for introspection, a moment to look inside ourselves, guided by the sounds, and to reflect on our lives and the people around us. It is also a moment to focus on our feelings and emotions, to learn, to get inspired, and to be excited about life.”

At Northwestern, Moreira teaches piano lessons, piano class, music theory, and all piano-related courses, as well as being the collaborative pianist for all university choirs and music students

Moreira holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. He also has a Master of Music in Musical Performance from the University of Strasbourg in France and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Collaborative Piano from the University of Oregon.

"I am very excited to share with the Alva community some of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written for piano,” he said.
