Texas Artist to Present Talk, Workshop on 3D Scanning Using A Phone

ALVA, Okla. – Artist Timothy Earl Neill will present a talk and host a workshop on 3D Scanning Friday, Nov. 13, at 3 p.m. in Jesse Dunn, sponsored by the Wisdom Family Foundation Visual Arts program.

The talk, scheduled in Gallery Sophia in Jesse Dunn, Room 218, coincides with the closing of his gallery exhibition, which has been open since Oct. 23. His topic of 3D Scanning is a process he uses heavily in his work. The workshop showing how to use a phone for basic 3D scanning, will follow at the Northwestern Museum of Natural History. Note: Both locations are only accessible via stairs.

“This is a great opportunity for students to interact with this artist, and a cool moment to learn how to 3D scan,” said Thomas Cornell, assistant professor of visual arts and chair of the fine arts department.

Neill is an instructor of graphic design in the Department of Design at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. He received a master of fine arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and a bachelor of fine arts degree from California College of the Arts.

He is an interdisciplinary multimedia artist whose work explores the relationships between history, technology, and the natural and built environments. Working across sculpture, digital imagery, video and photography, he combines objects and images from different places and periods to create connections between the past, present and possible futures. Through archival research, site visits and digital processes, his work examines how information, cultural artifacts and environments are shaped by time, displacement and transformation.

Cornell noted that Neill’s work challenges how people understand and process information, particularly in an era of generative artificial intelligence, using digital media to question the facts and images presented through these technologies.
