NWOSU Art Society Awards Top Art Work; Winning Pieces at Runnymede April 5

The artwork has been judged in the 21st annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society Art Show, and Elayna Warrington, Alva sophomore majoring in biology-natural history, has won the Student Division Award and the overall Best of Show award for her Figure/Portraiture entry in Works on Paper titled “The Fox and the Raven.”

The overall Best of Show honors in the 21st annual NWOSU Art Society Art Show was awarded to the piece titled “The Fox and the Raven” by Alva sophomore Elayna Warrington. This artwork and many others will be on display at the Runnymede April 5 from 6-8 p.m. during the First Friday Artwalk.

The Non-Student Division Award winner for those who are current/retired employees or alumni is Victoriano Muniz-Mendoza, a member of the university’s maintenance staff, for his Artisan Crafts piece titled “Aguilas.”

The People’s Choice winner selected by the voting public was awarded to Emma Curry, Carmen sophomore majoring in agriculture education, for her painting in the Nature/Landscape category titled “Botanical Cottage.”

The names of several other student and non-student winners have been compiled into a document that may be found on the NWOSU Art Society’s web page at https://www.www.nwosu.edu/art/nas-art-show in the NAS Art Show Winners’ tab.

These top award winners and all other pieces placing at the campus show will be on display again during the First Friday Artwalk event in downtown Alva at the Runnymede, across the street from the Alva Police Department. The artwork will be on display on the first floor of the building on April 5 from 6-8 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

In conjunction with the art display, the Nescatunga Arts and Humanities Council is offering a workshop to learn basic crochet stitches and working in the rounds and in rows among other things. Cost of the workshop is $15 and is open to the public on the second floor of the Runnymede from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. There is a limit of 15 participants. Those interested in attending should register at NescatungaArts@yahoo.com. Leading the workshop are Dr. Mary Riegel, professor of mathematics at Northwestern, and Dr. Jenny Sattler, associate professor of physics.
