Northwestern Welcomes 12 New Faculty Members

New faculty at NWOSU-Fall 2022

Northwestern’s new faculty members who attended a recent orientation session before the start of the fall semester include (left to right, front row) Esmeralda Herrera and Crystal Gillett, both instructors of nursing; Dr. Rebecca MacKay, assistant professor of biology; Dr. LaTesha Reed, assistant professor of nursing in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program; (back row) Whitney Cotton, instructor of education; Teri Allen, instructor of accounting; Yesenia Buckhaults, instructor of education; Lars Roeder, assistant professor of visual arts; Dr. David Vaughan, assistant professor of English; and Dr. Eduardo Moreira, assistant professor of music and accompanist for the university choirs. Also newly employed this year but not in the group photo are returning faculty members Dr. Leigh Kirby, assistant professor of psychology, and Dr. Krista Tilley, assistant professor of nursing in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program.

Twelve new faculty members began their teaching assignments at Northwestern Oklahoma State University for the 2022-2023 school year on Aug. 15. Four faculty members have been hired in the School of Arts and Sciences with eight in the School of Professional Studies.

Short biographies of each faculty member from the School of Arts and Sciences are listed below:

Dr. Rebecca MacKay, assistant professor of biology, holds a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Florida. She has a Master of Science in Marine Sciences from Savannah State University and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Bowling Green State University.

Dr. Eduardo Moreira, assistant professor of music and accompanist for the university choirs, holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. He also has a Master of Music in Musical Performance from the University of Strasbourg in France and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Collaborative Piano from the University of Oregon.

Lars Roeder, assistant professor of visual arts, has a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Dr. David Vaughan, assistant professor of English, has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Oklahoma State University, a Master of Arts in Editorial Studies from Boston University and a Ph.D. in English Literature from Oklahoma State University.

Short biographies of each faculty member from the School of Professional Studies are listed below:

Teri Allen, instructor of accounting, holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration, both from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. 

Yesenia Buckhaults, instructor of education, has a Bachelor of Science in Education-Mathematics and a Master of Education in Adult Education Management & Administration, both from Northwestern.

Whitney Cotton, instructor of education, earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership, both from Northwestern.

Crystal Gillett and Esmeralda Herrera are both instructors of nursing who earned their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from Northwestern.

Dr. Leigh KirbyDr. Leigh Kirby, assistant professor of psychology, has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University. She also holds a Master of Science Counseling & Guidance and Doctor of Philosophy Counseling, both from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Dr. LaTesha Reed, assistant professor of nursing in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from the University of Southern California, has a Master of Business Administration from California State University-Dominguez Hills, a Master of Science in Nursing as a family nurse practitioner from Samuel Merritt University and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of New Hampshire.

Dr. Krista TilleyDr. Krista Tilley, assistant professor of nursing in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Eastern Washington University. She also has a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma-Health Sciences Center and a Doctor of Nursing Practice-Administration from Samford University.
