Northwestern Psi Chi Induction Ceremony Recognizes 27 New Members

The Northwestern Psi Chi Honor Society in Psychology welcomed 27 new members in an induction ceremony on April 7. Attendees and inductees include (back row, left to right): Mistie Kline; Sophia Arnold; Dennise Gorton; Allyson Boone; Paige Bailey; Catherine Buchanan; Taylor Phillips (middle row, left to right): Dr. Bailey Lancaster; Brandi Layton; Jaydan Coffman; Guadalupe Giron; Cadence Long-Torres; Haylee Jantz; Katelyn Breedlove (front row left to right): Jennifer Bicknell; Julie Green; Jennifer O’Donnell; and Pedro Martinez. Inducted but not present: Elizabeth Bales, Samora Collins, Cierra Cook, Elizabeth Dang, Emily Flores, John Hofferber, Taylor Larsen, Louis Miele, Beatriz Penaflor, Heather Rogers, Halie Shirley and JoEllen Worthington.

ALVA, Okla. — The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology chapter welcomed 27 new members during an induction ceremony on Tuesday, April 7, on the Northwestern-Alva Campus.

Taylor Phillips, instructor of psychology and Psi Chi chapter advisor, was joined by psychology faculty members Dr. Bailey Lancaster, assistant professor of psychology and Psi Chi Chapter co-advisor, and Mistie Kline, lecturer of psychology, in celebrating the inductees and their accomplishments.

Fifteen of the 27 new members took part in the membership acceptance ceremony.

New members include: Sophia Arnold, Enid senior; Paige Bailey, Enid senior; Elizabeth Bales, Ponca City senior; Jennifer Bicknell, Enid senior; Allyson Boone, Perry junior; Katelyn Breedlove, Harper, Texas, junior; Catherine Buchanan, Alva graduate student; Jaydan Coffman, Alva senior; Samora Collins, Clinton graduate student; Cierra Cook, Mustang senior; Elizabeth Dang, College Station, Texas, senior; Emily Flores, Wylie, Texas, graduate student; Guadalupe Giron, Woodward senior; Dennise Gorton, Woodward senior; Julie Green, Enid senior; John Hofferber, Ponca City graduate student; Haylee Jantz, Burlington junior; Taylor Larsen, China Spring, Texas, graduate student; Brandi Layton, Enid senior; Cadence Long-Torres, Moore senior; Pedro Martinez, Texhoma junior; Louis Miele, psychology alumni from Brooksville, Florida; Jennifer O’Donnell, Fairview senior; Beatriz Penaflor, Shattuck graduate student; Heather Rogers, Haskell graduate student; Halie Shirley, Braman senior; and JoEllen Worthington, psychology alumni from Cherokee.

The ceremony celebrated the academic excellence, commitment, and perseverance required to earn membership in Psi Chi. Students in attendance were formally inducted, presented with certificates, and recognized for their achievements in scholarship and dedication to the field of psychology. The event marked an important milestone in each student’s academic journey and emphasized the value of leadership and service within the discipline.

Founded in 1929, Psi Chi is the International Honor Society in Psychology and a member of the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership is extended to students who meet rigorous academic standards and demonstrate a strong interest in psychology. With chapters at more than 1,000 colleges and universities worldwide, Psi Chi provides opportunities for research funding, leadership development, community engagement, and professional networking. Membership in Psi Chi is a lifetime honor reflecting academic distinction and commitment to excellence in the science and application of psychology.

To qualify for membership, students must meet national Psi Chi eligibility requirements. Inductees must have completed at least 9 semester hours of psychology coursework and a minimum of three semesters of college study, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and rank within the top 35% of their class. Membership is by invitation only and reflects sustained academic excellence and commitment to the field of psychology.
