Calling all incoming freshmen at Northwestern Oklahoma State University – Camp Ranger is set for July 30-Aug. 1 at the Alva campus. The deadline to register is July 28 at www.www.nwosu.edu/camp-ranger.
Masks will be required inside buildings due to the coronavirus pandemic. Camp Ranger staff will be following Centers for Disease Control guidelines for COVID-19.
Calleb Mosburg, dean of student affairs and enrollment management, explained this Northwestern event is organized and run by the Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors, a group of campus leaders who are selected to represent Northwestern in and out of the classroom.
By attending, incoming freshmen will have the opportunity to meet their classmates, become familiar with the Alva community, learn what it is like to be a part of the Ranger family and more.
Mosburg said this three-day event will include many fun and educational opportunities and hopes that the incoming freshmen will take advantage of this opportunity to be on campus, meet new friends and learn the Ranger traditions.
The cost is $115 for the three days of activities, meals, housing and an exclusive T-shirt only received by students attending this event. Registration payment may be made via check by mailing to the Northwestern Business Office at 709 Oklahoma Blvd., Alva, OK 73717 or paid upon arrival during check-in by cash or check. Checks should be payable to NWOSU.
Check-in time is July 30 at 5 p.m. in the Student Center, and check-out time is Aug. 1 at 1 p.m.

ment Association (SGA) will sponsor a week of fun events for students at the Alva campus on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, Aug. 21, 22, 24 and 25.
SGA members have chosen the first day of classes to kick off the Alva campus Howdy Week excitement with “Aloha Northwestern” for all Northwestern students. At 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, on the Intramural Field will be a cookout, slip n’ slide, dunk tank, volleyball tournament, music and fun.
Day two of Howdy Week will be “Movie Night” at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22. Just south of Coronado Café will be a movie playing for students, topped off with free corndogs and popcorn. Students are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on.
There is no event on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
The event for Thursday, Aug. 24, is a “Block Party” from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. on Monroe Street, between South Hall and Coronado Hall. The block party will have plenty of free food, music, dancing for the students and overall socializing for Rangers to get to know other students on campus.
On the last day of Howdy Week, SGA members will play host to two events Friday, Aug. 24. The first will take place in downtown Alva for “Bingo on the Square” starting at 4 p.m. along with items from local food trucks for purchase, and discounts to be announced closer to the event. Students should meet at the stage on the courthouse lawn anytime from 4 to 5:30 p.m. to pick up a bingo card; bingo winners will be announced at 5:30 p.m.
The second event on Friday will be a free concert, open to the public, on Alva’s Downtown Square called, “Night in the Northwest.” Starting at 6 p.m. students can join the Northwest Oklahoma Leadership Class for a night of musical talent and food from local food trucks for purchase until 10 p.m. Students are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
