Annual Northwestern Presidential Lecture Series set for April 7

The annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Presidential Lecture Series will focus on William McKinley, 25th President of the United States of America.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University will welcome Dr. Kevin Kern, associate professor of history at the University of Akron, to the annual Presidential Lecture Series on Monday, April 7, in the Student Center Ranger Room, from 12 to 1:30 p.m. The program is free and open to the campus community and public.

Kern earned his Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University and is the co-author of, “Ohio: A History of the Buckeye State,” now in its second edition.

He specializes in Ohio history, late 19th and early 20th-century U.S. history and the history of science and technology. He has appeared in shows on The History Channel, C-SPAN and PBS, and serves as the editor of the University of Akron Press Ohio History and Culture Series.

While Ohio history is the primary focus of Kern’s work, he has also published articles and book chapters in areas as diverse as the history of American eugenics to Monty Python studies. Kern is currently working on a book titled, “State of the Game: Ohio and the Development of a Football Culture,” on Ohio and the development of American football.

The conversation during the lecture series will focus on William McKinley. Born in Niles, Ohio, McKinley served as the 25th President of the United States until his assassination in 1901.

The annual program is sponsored by the Northwestern Department of Social Sciences and Endowed Institute for Citizenship Studies.
