22nd Annual NWOSU Art Society Art Show March 3-April 1 in J.W. Martin Library

Several art pieces have been entered into the 22nd annual NWOSU Art Society Art Show that will occur March 3-April 1 in the J.W. Martin Library on the Alva campus.

The 22nd annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society Art Show will take place March 3-April 1 in the J.W. Martin Library on the Alva campus and will be open during the library’s regular business hours.

More than 100 items have been entered into this year’s art show from Northwestern students, current and retired employees and alumni.

“The variety of artwork showcased this year is truly remarkable,” Thomas Cornell, assistant professor of visual arts, said. “The Art Society has excelled in bringing together students and members of the extended Ranger family to present a wide array of art. It’s a testament to our vibrant creative community and certainly merits a visit to the J.W. Martin Library to experience the exhibition firsthand.”

Because of spring break, the library will be closed March 16-19 and will reopen March 20-21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is closed on Saturdays. Viewing is free and open to the public.

Prize ribbons will be awarded to all students and non-students placing first through third in all categories, along with Best of Show and People’s Choice. A $50 cash prize will be awarded to the student winning Best of Show, and the students placing first place in each category will earn $10. Everyone entered in the show is eligible to receive votes for the People’s Choice award and will receive a $25 cash prize.

All artwork that earns an award in this show will be eligible for the Winners’ Show, which is scheduled for April 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Runnymede in downtown Alva during its regular First Friday Artwalk events.

Non-placing art from the campus show may be picked up at the library on Wednesday, April 2, by 5:30 p.m. Artwork from the Winners’ Show at the Runnymede may be picked up at the end of that show at 8 p.m. Any remaining artwork should be picked up on Monday, April 7, by 5:30 p.m. Contact Cornell at tacornell@nwosu.edu or (580) 327-8111 for a pickup location.

For additional information about the art show or the art society, visit the NAS website at www.www.nwosu.edu/art, join the club’s Facebook group or fan page, or contact Cornell. Photos from past shows are available for viewing at https://bit.ly/art-society-photos.

For more information on classes within the visual arts program, please contact Cornell or David Poindexter, associate professor of visual arts, at dapoindexter@nwosu.edu or (580) 327-8108.
