Students encouraged to participate in Ranger Research Day Nov. 16; submission deadline Nov. 6

Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Alva campus will play host to the 13th annual Ranger Research Day on Friday, Nov. 16, in the Student Center Ballroom. Students will have the opportunity to display, share and discuss their research with peers, professors and the Alva community.

The deadline for Northwestern student submissions for Ranger Research Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Graduate and undergraduate students create poster presentations or oral presentations of academic papers of research conducted in one of their classes. All presenters will be encouraged to attend Oklahoma Research Day, which Southwestern Oklahoma State University will host in Weatherford on March 8.

Poster presentations for Ranger Research Day will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. followed by academic paper presentations from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

There will be first, second and third place winners for each discipline category.

For the category of Arts and Music the disciplines are Art and Design; Music; Theater and Dance.

For the category of Business the disciplines are Accounting; General Business Administration; Business Communication; Economics; Finance; Information (MIS) Operations Management; and Management.

For the category of Education the disciplines are Curriculum; Gerontology; Human Environmental Sciences; Kinesiology, Health Studies and Special Services; Professional Teacher Education; and Psychology.

For the category of Liberal Arts the disciplines are Communication; English; Foreign and Modern Languages; History; Geography; Humanities; Philosophy; Political Science; Sociology and Substance Abuse Studies; Social Work; and American Studies.

For the category of Math and Science the disciplines are Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Forensic Science; Mathematics and Statistics; Nursing; Physics and Engineering; and Agriculture.

“The public is welcome to attend to see the type of important research being done at the university,” Dr. Shawn Holliday, associate dean of graduate studies, professor of English and director of the Master of Arts in American Studies Program, said. “Any student thinking of attending graduate school should participate since research is such an integral part of graduate study.”

“It is important for Northwestern to have a large number of participants at Ranger Research Day this year,” Holliday added. “These participants can go on and present at Oklahoma Research Day in 2019. Since presenters from all of Oklahoma’s colleges and universities attend this event, I hope to have Northwestern well-represented to show our Ranger pride.”
