Northwestern’s Online RN-to-BSN Program Ranked No. 2 in Oklahoma

An RNtoMSN.org badge reads "Best RN to BSN Programs online in Oklahoma," and the Northwestern Oklahoma State University logo appears in the lower right corner.
Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s online RN-to-BSN program earned the No. 2 spot in Oklahoma for 2027 from RNtoMSN.org.

ALVA, Okla. — Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s online Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-to-BSN) program has earned the No. 2 spot in Oklahoma for 2027 from RNtoMSN.org. Recognized as a top option for registered nurses, the flexible program builds directly on existing professional experience.

To further support student success, Northwestern offers multiple scholarship opportunities for students who enter this program.

“We are thrilled to receive the No. 2 ranking and to highlight the outstanding opportunities Northwestern nursing offers to those looking to advance their education,” said Dr. Leslie Collins, Charles Morton Share Trust Division of Nursing chair and professor of nursing. “Our RN-to-BSN program was designed with working RNs in mind, providing a flexible and affordable pathway to earning a bachelor’s degree. Our graduates report high levels of satisfaction with both the program content and their patient care experiences, helping prepare them to make an even greater impact in the health care field.

“This achievement is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our Northwestern nursing faculty, who invest in our students and their success every day. We are proud of the program we have built and grateful for the faculty who make it possible,” Collins added.

Online RN-to-BSN Program Advantages for Working Nurses

Northwestern’s online RN-to-BSN program is designed specifically for registered nurses who want to earn a bachelor’s degree without putting their careers on hold.

The program offers several advantages for working professionals:

  • 100% online learning: Students can complete coursework without required campus visits.
  • A focused curriculum: The 27-credit-hour program provides a streamlined pathway for nurses building on their previous education and RN experience. The credit hours could vary dependent on if a student needs prerequisite courses.
  • Flexible clinical experiences: Rather than traditional clinical practicums, students complete direct-care and indirect-care experiences that meet accreditation standards connected to their current nursing roles.
  • Individualized guidance: Advisers and instructors work with students to align coursework and clinical requirements with their schedules.
  • Multiple start dates: Enrollment is available for fall, spring and summer semesters.
  • Career development: Coursework emphasizes evidence-based practice, leadership, community health and professional growth.

How RNtoMSN.org Ranks Online RN-to-BSN Programs

RNtoMSN.org’s 2027 rankings evaluate programs based on academic quality, student outcomes and overall educational value. According to the website, the best-program ranking considers seven factors:

  • Selectivity: Undergraduate admission rates.
  • Program size: The number of bachelor’s degrees in nursing awarded.
  • Graduation and retention: Institutional rates indicating student persistence and degree completion.
  • Reputation: S. News & World Report’s undergraduate nursing rankings.
  • Graduate earnings: Median earnings data for nursing graduates.
  • Student debt: Median federal student loan debt.
  • Tuition and fees: Per-credit tuition costs.

The methodology gives equal weight to the first six factors, while tuition and fees receive half the weight of each of those factors. The ranking also requires participating universities to be regionally accredited and their online nursing programs to hold accreditation from either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).

The organization reports that its data comes from government-collected sources, including the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard, as well as research conducted by its team.

Northwestern’s Charles Morton Share Trust Division of Nursing is accredited by CCNE and is approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN).
