Phi Alpha Theta is an international history honor society dedicated to promoting the study of history.
Requirements for membership include a minimum of 12 hours of history, a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and a grade point average of at least 3.1 in history. The sponsor for the Northwestern chapter is Dr. Eric Schmaltz, social sciences department chair and professor of history.
This year’s three inductees include history major Kaleigh L. Henke, Alva senior; history major Pamala N. Livingston, Tulsa senior; and social science education major Mandy L. Sinor, Medford senior.
Pi Gamma Mu is an international social sciences honor society dedicated to promoting excellence in social sciences and upholding scholarship, leadership and service.
Requirements for membership include a minimum of 20 hours of social science, a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and must be in the top third of the graduating class. The sponsor for the Northwestern chapter is Jana Brown Pittman, instructor of history and social science education coordinator.
This year’s nine inductees include adult education management and administration major Melissa Brown, Alva graduate student; American studies major Andrea Amanda Lynn Corr, Hardtner, Kansas, graduate student; social science education major James C. Dodson, Enid senior; social work major Samuel J. Felton, Alva senior; social work major Makenzie Hoskins, Arnett senior; social science education major Jessica Louise Myers, Enid senior; social work major Krystan Noel Pierce, Fargo senior; social work major Yasmin Vargas, Enid senior; and Henke.
Schmaltz reported that no political science students received honors this academic year, though he expects new initiates from that program in the coming year or two as the current student cohort completes the academic requirements necessary for membership qualification.
