Three Esports Day Camps Planned at Northwestern in June

Middle School students from the area recently participated in a Mario Kart Tournament in Northwestern’s Esports Arena in Shockley Hall. Students in grades 6-12 will be able to increase their skills by attending an Esports day camp at Northwestern June 14 and 28 in Alva and June 21 in Enid.

Three Esports day camps for students entering grades 6-12 in fall 2025 will take place on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Alva and Enid campuses in June. The deadline to register and pay camp fees is June 1.

Two camps will be offered at the Alva campus in Shockley Hall, including one on June 14 where students will play “Marvel Rivals” and the other on June 28 with “Super Smash Brothers.” One camp will be at the Enid campus on June 21 with “Super Smash Brothers.” Each camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Students may register for more than one camp at $25 per day, which includes lunch. Discounts for attending multiple days of the camp are offered, including $35 for two camp dates and $45 for three camp dates.

Payment for the camps is non-refundable unless the camp is canceled. Checks should be payable to NWOSU Esports Camp and sent to Dr. Tim Maharry, Chair, NWOSU Mathematics and Computer Science Department, 709 Oklahoma Blvd., Alva, OK 73717. Payments via debit/credit card can be made via phone by calling the NWOSU Business Office at (580) 327-8536. Please note the camper’s name and that the payment is for the Esports camp.

Evan Vaverka, instructor of computer science and Esports manager, said the main goal of the camps is for the students attending to have a fun day of playing video games.

“The main aim of the camps is to be a place where players of those games will be able to grow their skills and meet like-minded players,” Vaverka said. “We want players who attend to leave with the sense that they had a good time and met other players with a similar passion.”

Vaverka added that college-level players will be around to help coach and participate with camp attendees.

Additional information and a registration form are available at www.www.nwosu.edu/school-of-arts-and-sciences/math-and-computer-science/esports-camp. Questions about the camp may be directed to Maharry at (580) 327-8583 or tjmaharry@nwosu.edu or send emails to esports@nwosu.edu.

More information about the Mathematics and Computer Science programs is online at www.www.nwosu.edu/school-of-arts-and-sciences/math-and-computer-science.

Northwestern’s Computer Science program and Esports team, with funding from the Buckles and Tucker Endowments, are the sponsors of these camps.
