Northwestern’s Division of Business, Social Sciences Department Induct Students into Honor Societies

Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s division of business and social sciences department inducted new members into several international honor societies.

Delta Mu Delta is an international business honor society that recognizes and encourages the academic excellence of students at qualifying colleges and universities. Requirements for membership include completion of half of the major coursework, must be in the top 20 percent of the majors at Northwestern, a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and completed 24 credit hours at Northwestern.

The sponsor for the Northwestern chapter is Dr. Wei Zhou, associate professor of business.

This year’s 12 inductees include senior business majors Jose Amador of Hooker; Yvonne Brown of Blackwell; Colson Buckminster of Enid; Zachary Davis of Pond Creek; Sierra Focke of Newkirk; Camdon Frech of Helena; Yamila Galindo of Waynoka; Jasetin Nelson of Chester; Maxwell Parsons of Alva; Katherine Perry of Cleveland; Gracie Scarbrough of Alva; and Alex Yanez of Enid.

Phi Alpha Theta is an international history honor society dedicated to promoting the study of history. Requirements for membership include a minimum of 12 hours of history, a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and a grade point average of at least 3.1 in history.

The sponsor for the Northwestern chapter is Dr. Eric Schmaltz, social sciences department chair and professor of history.

This year’s three inductees include history minors Braeden Cook, Alva junior; Silvia Lopez, Enid junior; and Daniel Pappan, Kaw City senior.

Pi Sigma Alpha is an international political science honor society dedicated to promoting the understanding of politics, democracy and citizenship throughout the world. Requirements for membership include a minimum of 12 hours of political science, a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 and must be in the top third of the graduating class.

The sponsor for the Northwestern chapter is Dr. Aaron Mason, professor of political science.

This year’s four inductees are political science majors Jacob Ervin, Alva senior; Savannah Francis, Tahlequah senior; Landry Gaddy, Alva senior; and Pappan.

Pi Gamma Mu is an international social sciences honor society dedicated to promoting excellence in social sciences and uphold scholarship, leadership and service. Requirements for membership include a minimum of 20 hours of social science, a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and must be in the top third of the graduating class.

The sponsor for the Northwestern chapter is Jana Brown, instructor of history and social science education coordinator.

This year’s nine inductees include senior social work major Alissa Carlson of Bentonville, Arkansas; senior political science major Tyler Gregory of Follett, Texas; senior criminal justice major Braxton Kearns of Glenpool; junior criminal justice major Dawson Maxwell of Perry; senior social science education major Cody Slater of Cleo Springs; Cook; Ervin; Francis and Gaddy.
