Club, Career, Job Fair set January 22 for Northwestern students, public

Two Northwestern Oklahoma State University areas are teaming up to provide students, and even the public, a unique opportunity to explore social and occupational opportunities on Jan. 22.

The Student Government Association along with the Career Services office, led by Taylor Wilson, are offering a Club, Career and Job Fair from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom on the Alva campus.

Olivia Yandel, SGA co-adviser, explained that the Club Fair portion will be similar to what took place early in the fall semester allowing students to visit with representatives of the university’s campus clubs and organizations. However, the Career and Job Fair portion will be slightly different in that representatives who may have immediate job opportunities on-campus or locally off-campus will come together with those who are offering career positions after graduation or internship opportunities.

“I think it’s a great idea to combine the two events and hit students right at the beginning of the semester,” Yandel said. “Many students don’t start their career/internship search until it is close to the end of the semester, therefore many jobs/internships are already full or no longer looking. It’s smart to get those graduating seniors to begin looking early so they can have a job lined up upon graduation.

“With that, this also allows the underclassmen on campus to be exposed to jobs and internships ahead of time, so they know what to expect but also allows them to find a club or organization that fits their interests, so they can be involved during their college years and build their resume for the future. I’m really excited to be collaborating with Taylor’s office on this.”

Wilson added that this fair will help to assist students in developing professional and personal connections through networking with these business and club members to enhance their college experience and beyond.

Free tacos from Rickie’s Sweets & Eats will be an added incentive for students to attend.

Yandel explained that in order for students to get a free taco, they must visit three booths and obtain signatures with at least one booth being from the career/job side and at least one from the clubs’/organizations’ side.

Wilson said 11 businesses have registered with her office so far and is looking for others who are seeking employees. A registration form for interested businesses is available under the Career & Internship Fair tab at www.www.nwosu.edu/student-services/office-of-career-services. A list of businesses attending also is available at this location. Wilson may be reached at tawilson@nwosu.edu or (580) 327-8547.

Campus club/organization representatives should contact Yandel for a table at oayandel@nwosu.edu or (580) 327-8105.
