Northwestern plays host to Northwest Oklahoma Concert Series 2018-2019 season

This year’s schedule includes Dawson Hollow, Sept. 4; VOX Audio, Nov. 27; Tulsa Camerata, Jan. 29, 2019; and Riders in the Sky, April 23, 2019.

Northwest Oklahoma Concert Series (NWOCS), an organization that seeks to bring cultural performances and entertainment to northwest Oklahoma, will begin its 2018-19 season Tuesday, Sept. 4, and the advisory board is selling season tickets to its four scheduled acts. All four concerts will take place on Tuesdays with the respective dates, at 7 p.m. in Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Herod Hall Auditorium.

This year’s schedule includes Dawson Hollow, Sept. 4; VOX Audio, Nov. 27; Tulsa Camerata, Jan. 29, 2019; and Riders in the Sky, April 23, 2019.

More information on the four scheduled acts follows:

Dawson Hollow, Sept. 4, 2018

Missouri native Dawson Hollow is an indie-folk band based out of the Ozark Mountains. Their music encompasses the nostalgia of folk while channeling the urgent and intoxicating energy of indie-rock. In 2017 the group members completed a crowd-funded Kickstarter campaign raising $96,000 for their debut record. The album was produced by San Diego native Ryan Poole and mixed by Grammy award-winner and Nashville-based producer/mixer Ryan Hewitt. The band is now signed with Red Letter Management Group.

Their debut album, “Boy of My Youth,” was released in January 2018. Singles “Lonesome Wolf” and “Take Me There” were released in October and November of 2017. For more information on Dawson Hollow visit www.dawsonhollow.com.

VOX Audio, Nov. 27, 2018

VOX Audio was born as “Toxic Audio” at the 1998 Orlando Fringe Festival. The concept was simple: create a fun, interactive theatrical show, where the star was the human voice. The show was an instant hit with fans and critics, hailed by The Orlando Sentinel as “surprising, dazzling and brilliant.” VOX Audio soon caught the attention of Disney executives, who hired them to perform daily at Walt Disney World’s MGM Studios. After winning first place in the National Harmony Sweepstakes and being named “Best Pop Group in America” by Ed McMahon’s Next Big Star, the group spent some time as top-ranked guest entertainers on Royal Caribbean cruise ships.

In 2004, VOX Audio opened to rave reviews Off-Broadway. The Village Voice called them “A Sensation” and Time Out New York said, “Don’t Miss it!” The off-Broadway production also won the prestigious Drama Desk Award for “Unique Theatrical Experience.”

Soon the VOX Audio garnered national attention with appearances on ABC-TV, FOX and ESPN 2’s “Cold Pizza.” Their album, “Chemistry” was named “Acappella Album of the Year” by the Contemporary Acappella Society of America and was featured on radio stations across the country, including Sirius Satellite Radio.

In the years following, VOX Audio performed for sell-out crowds at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and toured internationally throughout parts of Asia, South America and Europe. Wherever they go, VOX Audio continues to delight audiences world-wide by exploring the boundaries of the human voice. For more information on VOX Audio visit www.voxaudioonline.com.

Tulsa Camerata, Jan. 29, 2019

Tulsa Camerata is a professional mixed-instrumentation chamber music ensemble dedicated to enriching the community through concerts and educational outreaches that foster artistic excellence and innovation. Founded in 2010, they present varied and unique programs that integrate the arts, encompassing modern compositions as well as classical masterpieces. Their innovative concert format blends music and commentary to offer unique insight into their distinctive repertoire. Riders in the Sky, April 23, 2019

For more than 30 years Riders in the Sky have been keepers of the flame passed on by the Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry and Roy Rogers, reviving and revitalizing Western music. And while remaining true to the integrity of the genre, they have themselves become modern-day icons by branding it with their own legendary wacky humor and way-out Western wit, and all along encouraging buckaroos and buckarettes to live life “The Cowboy Way!”

Riders in the Sky are stars of the stage, screen, the Grand Ole Opry, National Public Radio, XM Satellite Radio, Saturday morning TV and are the only exclusively Western artist to have won a Grammy Award. They truly are “America’s Favorite Cowboys.” For more information on Riders in the Sky visit www.ridersinthesky.com.
