Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s current Artist-in-Residence, Stephanie Concepcion Ramirez, will be involved in multiple events in February as she closes out her time in the Visual Arts program. All events are free and open to the public.
Ramirez will present an Artist’s Talk in Jesse Dunn 324 on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. where she will discuss her work and influences.
On Friday, Feb. 2, from 6-8 p.m. during the First Friday Art Walk event at Graceful Arts in downtown Alva, Ramirez will be exhibiting “small works,” which includes four, 8×10 photos. These photos will remain on exhibit through the month of February.
Her culminating exhibition of the work she has been creating since coming to Northwestern on Jan. 18 will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 3-6 p.m. in Jesse Dunn 323. This installation will encompass the whole studio space and will incorporate photography into the installation. Snacks and refreshments will be served. The show also will be on display on Friday, Feb. 9, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Ramirez is a Salvadoran-American artist from Prince George’s County, Maryland. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, and her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. She currently works and lives in Austin, Texas.
Her work is based on notions of memory, personal and historical amnesia, and migration that trace the veins of the Central American diaspora. In an attempt to fill gaps within her personal history she creates images that validate truth, false memories and fantasy.
