GARDEN CITY, Kan. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University women's rodeo team finished fifth while the men's team finished ninth in this weekend's rodeo at Garden City Community College.
The women finished with 110 points while the men finished with 80. Garden City won the women's side while Western Oklahoma State College won the men's side.
Perry Dietz won the tie down event. He won the long round with a time of 9.1 seconds and came back with a second place finish in the short round with a time of 8.8 seconds. His overall time of 17.9 seconds was a full second better than the second place finisher.
Lauren Barnes was sixth after the long round tying her goat in 6.8 seconds but came back to finish second in the short round with a time of 6.5 seconds. Her overall time of 13.3 seconds was good enough for second place and .3 behind the top finisher in the competition. Dusta Kimsey finished fifth with a time of 13.6.
Kimzey added to her successful day with a sixth place finish in the break away. She was fourth in the long round and recorded a no time in the short round.
In the steer wrestling competition, Clint Kindred finished fourth overall with a time of 20 seconds. His long round time of 4.2 seconds was tied for second place and his short round time of 15.8 seconds was fifth.
Cody Burkholder finished sixth in the saddle bronc. His short round score of 62 was fifth in the round.
The next rodeo for both teams will begin March 9 at Fort Scott Community College.
