Legislators, regents and local leaders joined officials from Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Dec. 17, as they broke ground on a new building to serve its growing agriculture education program.

The 4,000 square foot facility will be constructed at the University Farm south of Alva and is expected to be completed in late spring.

At the event, Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, announced she will ask the Board of Regents of the Regional University System of Oklahoma to approve a request to name the facility the Wisdom Agriculture Education Center in recognition of the contributions of the family of the late C.W. and Grace Wisdom of Alva.

Dr. Peggy Wisdom, the couple’s daughter and chair of the Wisdom Family Foundation, was instrumental in providing

Northwestern’s agriculture education program began this fall and more than 20 students are currently enrolled in the program.
