Students in the University Singers, Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s premier choral ensemble, will be performing their New York City Kick-Off Concert on Thursday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Woodward Arts Theatre and Jessie Adams Cultural Centre, 818 Main Street, and Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m. at the Alva First United Methodist Church, 516 Church Street. The concert will feature the same rundown as the group will be performing in New York March 15-19.
Dr. Irene Messoloras, assistant professor of music and director of the ensemble, said the concert will consist of a variety of repertoire ranging from renaissance to contemporary. Composers include Anton Bruckner, Claude Debussy, Jake Runestad and Ethan Sperry.
“The University Singers are excited to present their NYC tour,” Messoloras said. “Rehearsing on average of 12 hours a week, the choir will perform a wide variety of music. Our goal is to showcase the versatility of the group, as well as inspire our audience by maintaining the highest level of performance, mental focus and artistic musicality. We are honored to serve as ambassadors of our school, community and the state of Oklahoma.”
