Three music students playing in Colorado honor band over spring break

Three Northwestern Oklahoma State University music students will be spending their spring break in Boulder, Colorado, performing in the College Band Director’s National Association (CBDNA) Intercollegiate Honor Band.

Madison Hofen, Dacoma freshman majoring in instrumental music, will be playing trumpet; Amanda Metcalf, Enid sophomore majoring in instrumental music, will be playing clarinet; and Eduardo Venegas, Woodward freshman majoring in vocal music, will be playing alto saxophone.

Students will be in rehearsals beginning Wednesday, March 16, with their culminating performance scheduled on Saturday, March 19, at 2 p.m. on the campus of the University of Colorado-Boulder at Macky Auditorium. Gary Lewis of the University of Colorado-Boulder will be the conductor/clinician for this event.

Dr. Marc Decker, director of instrumental studies and music education, said his band students will be performing alongside undergraduates from Henderson State University, Colorado State University, Eastern New Mexico University, University of Central Missouri, Sam Houston State University, University of Texas, McMurry University and Abilene Christian University.

Decker, who is a member of CBDNA, will be traveling with the students to attend the organization’s Southwestern Division Convention at this same time.
