Dr. John Stockmyer - Associate Professor of Business
Dr. John Stockmyer is an Associate Professor of Business in the Division of Business. Before coming to NWOSU, Dr. Stockmyer taught for 11 years at Eastern New Mexico University. Dr. John Stockmyer earned his Ph.D. (1999) in Marketing from University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. He has an MBA (1992, Marketing) from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO and a BSE (1987) in Physics/Physical Science from the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, MO.
Marketing Management, Business Research, Salesmanship, Principles of Marketing, and Personal Finance are some of the courses taught by Dr. Stockmyer at NWOSU. Other courses taught at both undergraduate and graduate levels include Consumer Behavior, Retailing, e-Commerce, Service Marketing, and Professional Selling.
Topics of research for Dr. John Stockmyer include retail design, crisis management, business innovation, and technology application in business environments. Dr. Stockmyer has been a featured speaker at MBAA International Conferences speaking on "A New Framework for Creative Idea Generation "(2010) and "Educating Future Business Leaders: Using Technology in Enhance Business Education" (2007). Dr. Stockmyer was a contributing author on "The Role of Technology in Enhance Graduate Business Education" (2010). Dr. John Stockmyer's work, "Researching the Shopping Environment Using Architectural Design Software" was recognized as the best marketing paper at Mountain Plains Management Association 47th Annual Conference (2005).
Membership & Activities:
As Chair of the DOB-Assessment Committee, Dr. John Stockmyer leads faculty committee members in identifying strengths of the DOB curricula and pedagogy and areas needing improvements. Under Dr. Stockmyer's guidance, the Assessment Committee measures the effectiveness and contribution of NWOSU-DOB programs in supporting student learning. The committee also assures compliance with the DOB program to standards established by NWOSU's and the DOB's accreditation bodies. This leadership responsibility parallels Dr. Stockmyer's previous roles as coordinator of the MBA Program at ENMU, department chair, member of faculty and administrative searches, vendor contract review and grant proposal committees. Besides teaching and working on university committees, Dr. John Stockmyer has been a faculty advisor for student groups working on projects for private businesses.
Dr. John Stockmyer draws on his personal experience as a small business owner and manager when illustrating business principles for his students. He was a lead architect in rebranding an agricultural product in a co-marketing campaign for a primary and secondary client. He has been a manager of a retail hardware store and owner-operator of a B2B service company targeting retail shopping centers. For fun, Dr. Stockmyer plays disc golf (amateur status) and tennis, performs electronic sound editing, and manages e-commerce activities and promotions for his father's books and educational materials. He is an honorary member of Delta Mu Delta (ΔΜΔ).
