CREDENTIAL FILES

Credential files are used for students and alumni who are applying for employment. Your file will consist of a personal data form, academic training form, transcript (your option), teaching certificate (if applicable) and statements of recommendation from the people you select for references.

When your file is placed on ACTIVE STATUS, that allows our office to refer your name to employers when your background meets their requirements. The employer may then contact you from this information. Please notify Career Services office of any change in address, telephone number, name, additional course work and acceptance of a job offer. It is vital that you contact our office when you have accepted a position.

When you report to our office that you have accepted a position and/or you are no longer seeking employment, your file will be placed on INACTIVE STATUS. Your name will no longer be referred to employers.

TO REACTIVATE YOUR FILE, notify the Career Services office that you wish to reactivate your file. Pertinent information affecting your job search status will be asked (e.g., name, address, telephone number, additional course work, type of employment desired, up-to-date recommendations, desired location, etc.). Your file will then be placed on active status.

TO SEND YOUR CREDENTIALS, notify the Career Services office by telephone, written request or e-mail, career@nwosu.edu and supply the following information: (1) Name of person making request (maiden name if applicable), (2) Name of person receiving credential, (3) Title of person receiving credential, (4) Name of Business/School District, (5) Complete address: Box, Street, City, State, Zip.

Ten (10) credentials will be mailed free of charge. After 10, you must provide two stamps (66¢) for each credential requested to be mailed in our official stationery. Do not send cash or check; money will be refunded, which will delay processing.

Utilizing your file properly can enhance your job search for years to come. It is important that you inform the Career Services office of any change in employment, name, addresses, telephone number and additional course work completed. Whether your file is active or inactive, up-to-date information is vital to the continued use of your credential file. When you change employment, ask a past supervisor to send a letter of recommendation to the Career Services office. This information is needed to maintain a high quality and serviceable file that will aid in your job search.
