Who are the Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors?
The Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors (NSA) are a group of twelve
academically high achievers with outstanding personalities.
What does the NSA do?
NSA members serve as student ambassadors to the university.
Their duties include acting as a host/hostess, tour guides, and recruiters.
Some of the activities NSA members assist with are: Freshman Connection,
Alumni Spring Reunion, Family Day, Miss Cinderella Pageant, blood drives,
campus tours, and many other exciting NWOSU activities. |
How do I become a Northwestern Scholar Ambassador?
Eligibility Requirements:
1.
3.25 Cumulative GPA with a minimum of 24 hours.
2. Have no failing grades on college transcript.
3. Meet regular scholarship requirements.
4. Two written recommendations from the college administration or faculty.
5. The applicant must turn in a Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors
application.
6. A satisfactory rating in oral communication as determined by interview.
Selection Process:
1. NSA coordinator will contact students who are selected to be
interviewed.
2. The Interview Committee will interview the applicants. The
interview committee will be selected by the Dean of Student Affairs and
Enrollment Management. The committee will consist of 2 members of the
Scholarship Committee, 1 member of the Foundation Office, one member from the
Scholarship and Financial Aid office, and other members as appointed by the Dean
of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
3. The scholarships will be awarded based on the recommendations of the
Interview Committee. Priority will be given to students who live in the
dorms, or would be willing to live in the dorms, and are involved in campus
activities.
Renewal Requirements:
1. Maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA at all
times.
2. Enroll in and successfully complete a minimum of 12 hours each
semester.
3. Receive no failing grades.
4. Allow no semester's GPA to fall below 2.5.
5. Satisfactory fulfillment of the student contract.
6. This scholarship may be awarded along with others, providing the
student's total value of scholarships does not exceed the limit set forth by the
Scholarship Committee.
7. This scholarship is annually renewable upon application.
8. Re-interview with Interview Committee to continue.
Student Participation:
1. Participate in assigned duties at
special events on campus. A calendar will be given to each NSA member for
recording upcoming events. The NSA member is responsible for updating this
calendar and referring to it for scheduling purposes. Each NSA member will
be required to participate in at least 75%
of the planned activities.
2. Conduct campus tours as scheduled by the Recruitment Office.
(Minimum of 1 hour every week).
3. Attend meeting as scheduled.
Meetings will be approximately one hour duration unless otherwise noted, be
prepared to stay for the entire hour.
4. Each member will be required to work one office hour per week.
5. Other duties as required by the NSA Coordinator.
Conduct:
1. As a representative of NWOSU, NSA
members are expected to conduct themselves in a mature and responsible manner.
2. While representing NWOSU in their official capacity, NSA members are to
appear neat and groomed at all times.
3. NSA members are expected to arrive on time and stay the full time at
all events and meetings. Tardiness will not be tolerated.
4. Commitments to attend events must be honored unless excused by the NSA
Coordinator.
5. NSA members can be terminated for conduct that violates university
guidelines as stated in the Student Guidebook, or the standards set by the NSA
Coordinator.
Leadership:
1. The NSA group is intended to give members an opportunity to develop and
sharpen leadership skills; therefore the ability to take initiative and lead
others is highly valued. Each year officers will be selected from among
NSA members. Suggestions for improving the program and life at NWOSU are
encouraged, however the responsibility for following through on suggestions lies
squarely on the NSA member's shoulders. The NSA Coordinator shall maintain
the power to veto.
2. Officer positions and duties are as follows:
President - Conduct all meetings, lead discussions and encourage open
communication of members. Fulfill duties as assigned and appoint duties as
needed to NSA members. The president is responsible for the overall
performance of the NSA.
Vice President - Assist the president in conducting meetings. Assume
President's duties in his/her absence. Assist the secretary with
contacting members. Fulfill other duties as assigned.
Secretary - Take roll at all meetings and events. Maintain a roster of
current NSA addresses and phone numbers. Notify members of upcoming events
and record commitments to attend. Fulfill other duties as assigned.
Historian - Maintain NSA scrapbook. The historian will be responsible for
taking pictures and recording events throughout the year as well as providing
current NSA happenings to University Relations, NW News and KNSU.
Grounds for Termination:
1. Misconduct as defined by the university handbook.
2. Failure to fulfill participation duties and responsibilities.
3. Failure to successfully complete a minimum of twelve credit hours each
semester.
4. Failure to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25.
5. Receiving any failing grades.
6. Receiving any semester's GPA of below 2.5.
