Staff Council sponsors New Staff Orientation

New staff members at Northwestern Oklahoma State University completed new Staff Orientation recently. This orientation gives them a chance to learn about Northwestern and take a tour of several facilities.

Staff council exists to enable non-exempt staff employees to participate in the achievement of the goals of Northwestern. Current Staff Council members include David Washington, carpenter/events facilitator; Lisa Herning, library assistant; Angelia Case, media technician; Debbie Skinner, administrative assistant to the executive vice president; Erika Birk and Valarie Case, university relations specialists; Stephanie Widick (Enid), registration office assistant; and Charlie Burns, campus secretary/events coordinator of Northwestern-Woodward.

New staff members, positions and a brief biography are included below:

Molly Bates, secretary to the vice president for student affairs and enrollment management, has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and a Master of Education degree from Northwestern. She also is working on an MBA from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Bates previously worked as a temporary office assistant in the Office of Assessment.

Pamela Bookout, treatment counselor, Bill Johnson Correctional Center (BJCC), has a bachelor’s degree in social work from Northwestern. She previously worked at the university as a library services assistant.

Brooke Boulware, admissions counselor/recruiter, has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Northwestern. She was previously employed as an accountant with K. Forell & Associates in Alva.

Larry Brittain, Jr., lead custodian at Northwestern-Woodward, is a licensed aircraft mechanic and worked as a crew chief with Raytheon Aircraft in Wichita.

LesLee Bradt, custodian, has been a custodian for the Woods County Health Department and housekeeper for The Homestead.

Richard Burdick, assistant director of the J.R. Holder Wellness Center, has a bachelor’s degree in health and sports science education from Northwestern. He has previously worked at Wilcoxson Farms in Alva.

Charlie Burns, events coordinator at Northwestern-Woodward Campus, holds a bachelor’s degree in speech and theatre from Northwestern. He has worked at the Northwestern News and has some retail experience.

Andrew Carter, director of athletics, earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Missouri Baptist University and an MBA from Lindenwood University (Mo.). Carter has led athletic programs at Armstrong Atlantic University (Ga.), Newberry College (S.C.) and Missouri Baptist University, where he also served as head baseball coach.

Curtis Cook, coordinator of sponsored programs, has a bachelor’s degree in Russian studies from the University of Alabama and a master’s degree in the same field from George Washington University. Cook served as grants coordinator at Colorado Mountain College, was the director of the Women in Science and Engineering Program at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and was a program associate for the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Michael Dods, campus police officer, was a software test engineer at OnviSource in Enid and owns Net Wise Guys, LLC, a computer hardware and network solutions company.

Bryan DuPree, HVAC technician, comes to Northwestern after working as crew boss at Ingalls Feed Yard in Ingalls, Kan.

Alica Hall, travel/insurance clerk, has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Northwestern. She has been an office assistant at Northwest Electric and several other Alva businesses.

Kayla Fuqua, Division of Education secretary, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Northwestern. She previously worked as a student and graduate assistant in the division.

Lyndsey Heard, career services coordinator/admissions counselor, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural communications from Oklahoma State University. She has event planning experience with the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, Oklahoma State Fair, Tulsa State Fair and Louisiana State Fair.

Leslie Hebert, BJCC treatment counselor, earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northwestern. She previously was an intern with the BJCC program and also has some retail experience.

Dena Horton, business assistant at Northwestern-Enid, was a store manager for Redsky Wireless in Enid and also has worked at Panevino’s and the Best Western Inn in Enid.

Michelle Jaramillo, Upward Bound academic adviser, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and criminology from Metropolitan State College (Colo.). She was a student success peer advocate with the Bridge Program at Metropolitan State College.

Gretchen Jones, Coronado Hall supervisor, worked at the front desk at America’s Best Value Inn in Alva. She also was an apartment manager at two properties in Utah.

Jeremy Judd, BJCC treatment counselor, has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northwestern. He was an intern with the BJCC program and also was a manager with Pizza Hut.

Andrew Lauffer, intercampus courier/ITV facilitator, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communications from Northwestern and was employed by the school while a student.

Crystal Lovinggood, BJCC treatment counselor, has a degree in psychology from Northwestern. She was an intern in the BJCC program and also has worked as a camp counselor and nanny.

Matthew McGuire, custodian, has prior employment experience in the grocery/supermarket business.

Wendy McManus, assistant athletic director for compliance, has a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Chicago State University and earned a Master of Arts in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University (Calif.). She previously served as head volleyball coach at Texas A&M International University and University of the Southwest (N.M.).

Nicholas Murry, groundsman, was previously employed as an electrician in Alva.

Carey Phariss, assistant women’s basketball coach, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. He served as an assistant coach at the school for seven years.

Charly Roach, South Hall supervisor, earned a Bachelor of Education degree in early childhood education at Northwestern. She served as a resident assistant at South Hall and also worked at Renaissance Day Care in Stillwater.

Ashlee Sneary, financial aid loan coordinator, has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Northwestern and previously served as finance manager for Mark Ream Motors in Alva.

Trent Spade, BJCC treatment counselor, has a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Northwestern. He previously worked for the Department of Human Services as a child welfare aide.

James Stallings, Jr., groundsman, has worked in groundskeeping for several local lawn care businesses.

Rachel Stewart, special events coordinator, comes to Northwestern after serving as human relations/volunteer coordinator and executive assistant to the CEO at Share Medical Center. She also has worked for Central National Bank, the Alva Public Schools and Wheeler Brothers.

Jordan Tyree, financial aid assistant, is completing her degree at Northwestern. She worked for several years in the Financial Aid Office as a student.

Robyn Warfield, administrative assistant of Northwestern-Enid, has 20 years of experience as a medical/administrative assistant in various health care offices in Enid.

Tia Whitely, Division of Business secretary, has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and sports management from Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). She has prior work experience as an office assistant at K&S Tire in Alva and manager for Sterling Jewelers in Bourbonnais, Ill.

Daniel Winters, database support analyst, is currently enrolled at Northwestern and has worked as a swing manager at McDonalds.

Lisa Yearout, Division of Nursing secretary, worked in retail in Alva and has taught CPR and first aid at Northwest Technology Center.
