The University Singers: (Front row, from left) Alexandria Skinner, Erin Hopkins, Isileli Ofiu, Drew Faulkner, Dalton Imberi, Shayna Hamilton, Anna Tibbetts, Kenneith McIntosh, Riley Wiebener; (second row) Cynthia Watkins, Bryce Lewis, Naicee Gugelmeyer, Erica Bertram, Morgan Biaggi, Aaron Ford; (back row) Grant Lee, Rachel Carter, Joshua Faulkner, Austin Anderson, Chance Mayhall, and Lauren Turner will perform at this year’s Oklahoma Speaker’s Ball, lead by Dr. Irene Messoloras (front, middle).
This year’s Oklahoma Speaker’s Ball will have a Northwestern Oklahoma State University flair.
The University Singers, Northwestern’s premier vocal music ensemble, will perform at the event, presenting the National Anthem, providing entertainment during dinner, and singing the state song, “Oklahoma,” during the introduction of the Speaker of the House, Rep. Jeff Hickman.
The Speaker’s Ball, is an annual event designed to build camaraderie among the members of the legislature. The event is produced by the Oklahoma Speaker’s Ball Board of Directors, with proceeds benefitting a charity of the Speaker’s Choice. This year the designated charity is the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
In addition to the performance of the University Singers, Northwestern will be represented by Steve Valencia, Associate Vice President for University Relations, who last fall was appointed by Hickman to the Speaker’s Ball Board of Directors.
“Northwest Oklahoma never produced a Speaker of the House until last session, so this is the rarest of opportunities to showcase the University,” Valencia said. “Speaker Hickman, and his wife, Jana, have heard so many positive reviews of the University Singers, so they felt strongly about them performing at the ball.”
This year’s event is Sunday, Feb. 22, at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Following the dinner and program, country music star Ronnie Dunn will perform in concert.
