The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Spanish Club, Sigma Delta Pi chapter, and Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO) will present a Cinco de Mayo celebration in the Student Center Ballroom Friday, May 1, at noon.
An authentic Mexican meal will be served. Tickets are $5 for faculty, staff and general public, and $3 for students with a valid student ID, or kids under the age of 12. Proceeds will support the Spanish Scholarship Fund.
The 2015-16 Dr. Dorothy Day Scholarship recipient is Brittany Palmer, Ft. Gibson sophomore. This scholarship is awarded to a full-time continuing Spanish student with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average. The recipient also must be a Spanish major or minor and have completed three semesters of Spanish coursework. The scholarship application also requires the students to write a letter of intention and provide a copy of their transcripts to be considered. This scholarship is funded through fundraisers like the Cinco de Mayo Celebration, where traditional meals of Spanish-speaking countries are served.
