ALVA, Okla. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University softball team opened its season at home with two wins against Tabor College on Wednesday afternoon. Northwestern defeated the Lady Blue Jays 10-2 in five innings and 8-3 in the night cap.
Game One - Box Score
The Lady Rangers (2-0) got three runs in the second inning. Megan Snyder's RBI single plated two.
Northwestern's offense came alive in the fifth inning scoring seven times after two outs. Megan Bourdon homered to start the rally. Catcher Monique Zevad's three-run homer made the game 7-2. Snyder plated the eighth run with a single and Jasmine Braxton tripled to right field to end the game via the run rule.
Mason kept the Lady Blue Jay offense at bay giving up just two runs on two hits which all came in the fourth inning. Mason fanned 11 hitters in five innings of work.
Zevada and Snyder each had two hits in the game.
Game Two - Box Score
The Lady Rangers offense didn't come to life until the fourth inning of game when they scored four runs. Katie Glenn singled and stole second, one of two on the day for the speedy outfielder. Bourdon doubled to left scoring Glenn.
The Lady Blue Jays cut the lead Northwestern's lead at 4-3 when Funk hit her second two-run homer of the day.
Kylee Wilson's squeeze scored Alyssa Taylor. Monica Jaramillo singled to plate Zevada to make the game 6-3. Freshman Jayci Wehrenberg tripled home Jaramillo to make the game 7-3. Braxton's triple made the game 8-3 and Mason took care of the rest.
Mason finished with nine strikeouts giving up just two earned runs in the game. Bourdon and Taylor each had two hits in the game.
The Rangers will play at Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College at 2 p.m. next Tuesday.
