Social Science Education

This program is designed to prepare the student for a career in secondary education teaching Social Studies.  The coursework prepares the student for the subject specific competency exams required for Oklahoma Teacher Certification.  Students are strongly encouraged to contact program advisor Kathleen O’Halleran at kiohalleran@nwosu.edu, as early in the undergraduate program as possible in order to plan their program of study carefully. O’Halleran also may be reached by phone at (580) 327-8519 and is located in room 107 of the Education Center. Advisement is essential to appropriate preparation for a teacher education program.

Students are required to enroll and complete coursework in Education as well as Social Sciences.  Education majors must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA for admission into the Teacher Education program.  Please contact O'Halleran for further information about this degree program.

Students should refer to the History, Political Science and Sociology course rotations for planning purposes.  The Social Science Teacher's Course is offered in the Fall semester only.
