This program is designed to prepare the student for a career in secondary education teaching Social Studies. The coursework prepares the student for the subject specific competency exams required for Oklahoma Teacher Certification. Students are required to contact the Program Coordinator, Dr. Kay Decker at kldecker@nwosu.edu or 580-327-8521 their first semester upon admission to NWOSU in order to plan their program of study carefully. Dr. Decker's office is located in 311B Jesse Dunn classroom building on the Alva NWOSU campus. Advisement is essential to appropriate preparation for a teacher education program. All social science education majors are required to complete a plan of study with Dr. Decker and must obtain advisement from her prior to enrolling each semester.
Students are required to enroll and complete coursework in Education as well as Social Sciences. Education majors must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA for admission into the Teacher Education program. Please contact Dr. Kay Decker for further information about this degree program.
Students should refer to the History, Political Science and Sociology course rotations for planning purposes. The Social Science Teacher's Course is offered in the Fall semester only.
