Rodeo has solid showing at Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Northwestern Oklahoma State University men's rodeo team finished fourth while the women's team finished eighth at Kansas State University this past weekend.

The men finished with 265 points with Fort Scott taking home the win scoring 375 points. The women scored 115 points with Southwestern Oklahoma State taking home the crown at 335 points.

Trey Young won the calf roping with a time of 18.6 seconds. After finishing fifth in the long round, Young came back to finish second in the short round tieing his calf in nine seconds. Will Howell was third in the calf roping finishing fourth in the long round and third in the short round.

In the steer wrestling competition, Irwin scored 60 points by winning the short round with a time of 4.2 seconds. In the long round, Irwin's time of 6.4 seconds gave him a 10.6 in the average, good enough for second place and 50 more points.

Jess Woodward scored 15 points in the long round of the event with a time of 5.6 seconds and 10 points in the short round. He finished seventh overall.

Dusta Kimsey finished second in the short round tying her goat in 5.9 seconds and earning 50 points. She earned 45 more points from splitting second with an average time of 12.5 seconds.

Lauren Barnes finished sixth while Kari Cable finished seventh in the event.

In the barrel racing, Clara Morris was second out of 122 entries with a time of 24.93. Morris was tied for second after the long round and finished second in the short round. Alexis Allen finished sixth in the short round of the barrel racing with a 17.18 second run and sixth overall with a time of 29.79 seconds.

Dustin Searcy was able to tie for first in the team roping event with an overall time of 12.3 seconds. He earned 165 points. Brett Christenson finished third overall and was second in the long round and third in the short round. Casey Warnock finished fourth while Travis Cowan and Blaine Regan each finished seventh.

Cody Burkholder finished third in the saddle bronc scoring 71 points in the long round and 74 in the short round, which was second in the round.

Jenna Hampton finished seventh in the break away. Hampton's long round time of 2.7 tied for second, but ran in to tough luck in the short round. Kate Hansen finished eighth in the event.

The Northwestern rodeo team will return to action on March 2 at Garden City Community College.
