Ms. Dana Roark - Instructor of Accounting
Ms. Dana Roark has been an Instructor of Accounting in NWOSU's - Division of Business since 2007. Ms. Roark is working on her Doctorate of Education (ABD) with a specialization in Curriculum and Teaching from Northcentral University (Prescott, AZ.). Ms. Roark is a NWOSU alumna, having earned her Master in Education from NWOSU (2002) with an emphasis in Business. Her BS in Accounting (1989) was also earned from NWOSU.
Ms. Roark teaches many of NWOSU's accounting courses: Individual and Business Income Tax Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, and Cost Accounting. She also teaches Personal Finance.
Ms. Roark is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in the State of Oklahoma. She has over 20 years in public accounting, both as a tax accountant for a local CPA firm and in private practice. Ms. Roark is proficient in many of the tax software programs and brings that practical knowledge into the classroom, demonstrating to students how to use technology and software in computing tax exposure and liabilities.
Distance Education is an area of interest for Ms. Roark. She has researched non-traditional educational models and has used her skills in developing online courses for managerial accounting and tax accounting courses. Recently, she was awarded the Distinguished Paper Award of the Mustang Journal of Accounting and Finance as a co-author of "Are Routine Retiring CEOs More Closely Monitored in their Last Years" (2013).
Membership & Activities:
At NWOSU, Ms. Roark is involved in both faculty and student based organizations. She is a member of the Faculty Senate, having been elected by faculty members to serve a 4 year term. As the Director of the annual Miss Cinderella Pageant, Ms. Roark leads the committee who is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of this event, involving hundreds of individuals including NWOSU officials and facilities, contestants and their parents, pageant supporters, and local businesses. One of Northwestern's largest activities, the Miss Cinderella Pageant offers tuition scholarships, room and board credit, and other valuable awards for pageant winners. The Miss Cinderella event is truly a regional event as it attracts participants and contestants across northwest Oklahoma, reaches into the Texas panhandle, and penetrates into southern Kansas. Throughout its 60 year history, the pageant has been supported by members of the Alva community, the City of Alva, the Alva Chamber of Commerce, and business owners throughout the region. Ms. Roark is a member of the Oklahoma Society of CPAs, Delta Mu Delta (ΔΜΔ), and Golden Key International Honor Society. Ms. Roark is a board member of the South Barber School District, Kiowa, KS. She is active in the Monty Thompson Educational Foundation and the National Business Educators Association.
