ALVA, Okla. – In their third road game of a four-game swing, the Ranger soccer team fell in Tahlequah, 2-1, to NCAA Division II Northeastern Oklahoma State on Wednesday. Northwestern is now 1-8-1 on the season.
Just before the half, Northeastern Oklahoma State hit a 15-yard shot to take a 1-0 lead into intermission.
Northwestern countered as Ashley Guinn nailed her third goal of the season off an assist from Kayla Meloni, knotting the game at 1-1 during the 65th minute of play.
With the contest looking like a possible overtime could be forced, the Riverhawks got the game winning goal with just and a minute and a half to play.
The Rangers took nine shots and were accurate with seven on goal. Guinn led the way in shots, taking five and landing four on goal. Ranger keeper Kelsey Archer came up with 12 saves.
Northeastern shot 26 times and landed 14 on goal.
The Ranger soccer team will pick up SAC conference play on Monday, Oct. 13 with a 3 p.m. game at Chickasha against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma.
